I am looking for a good 2x12 new or used, that would be the best for death metal. I will be using it for gigs and recording purposes, so dependable and excellent tone. What are you guys suggestions?

Mesa Recto 2x12. I had one for years, and only got rid of it in favor of a Recto 4x12. It sounded huge- not QUITE as big as the 4x12, and definitely with a little more of a midrange focus (not a bad thing if you're scooping your mids at the amp though), but pretty damned close (and a heck of a lot more portable!). They're built like tanks, too, so gigging isn't a problem.

Great options, great service, great quality, all of the top speakers available, and they're about 300-400 less than comparable Mesa, Orange, and Marshall cabs. For 450 bucks to your door you can have a brand new 2x12 in any color and grill-cloth you want and pretty much any of the top Celestion speakers. I have an Avatar 2x12 Traditional with Vintage 30's. I had mine built and delivered in less than a week.

I actually already bought a cab. I bought an Egnater Tourmaster 212x, check it out guys, tell me what you think. I got it for a pretty good deal, I don't know how it will respond to death metal quite yet, but we shall see tonight, just arrived and got a show tonight.

Ok guys, so I just slapped an sm57 on that Egnater 212x cab, and I will tell you, I am super impressed, first impression wise, it is much more meaty than my 5150 cab. I literally just threw the mic up there, no placement adjusting or anything like that and it was one of the best tones I could have asked for. It fit so good in the mix, that from here on out I am using this sucker for all the recordings I am working on with other bands even. I was alittle sceptical because it is more of a vintage style cab, but this thing handled dropped tuned guitars with ease, and I haven't even tried recording it with the back panel section removed to hear that. I am really happy I bought this, I have seen that the speakers take some time to really warm up and get broken in before they sound good, but I am happy right now, so i can only imagine how good this thing is gonna sound when the speakers get alittle warmed up.

Wow guys, if you are looking for a killer cabinet, my Egnater Tourmaster 2x12 kicked some major ass, I am running a 120w tube head through it, and it sounded monsterous last night at the show, it was much more full in tone than my 5150 4x12. I think I am in love, and they are a steal, I got mine for 400 bucks brand new at zzounds. It has performed live and in the studio better than expected for sure, if you guys are looking for alot of tone options, check one out.

Avatar...you can get whatever you want. Speaker choice and cabinet size are going to be big factors in your sound.
For death metal, I'm not 100% sure, but the G12H is a really good speaker for regular metal, and just an overall great speaker.
I'd also recommend the larger cabinet for a touring/recording metal 2x12. It'll open up a lot and sound bigger.

I noticed, yeah, like I said previously, I ended up getting an Egnater 2x12 tourmaster. It is huge, and deep. It isn't much smaller than my 5150 cab was. It has a real meaty tone to it, sounds awesome when I run my crate blue voodoo 120h through that sucker. I just wanna get rid of my blue voodoo now and get something alittle more interesting. I was thinking about going rack with a line6 hd pro, with a power amp driving it into this cab, thought that would be a nice, easy to transport setup.

I would skip that line 6 set up. I kinda like some line 6 stuff, but kinda like isn't what you want...you want to love it.

Yeah, the Egnater has Celestion elite 80 speakers. They sound awesome man, way better than the sheffields that were in my 5150 cab, I am pretty impressed. It made me fall in love with my head all over again, because it opens up new tones, and the cool thing is I haven't even opened the back panel yet to make it openbacked. I can only imagine. So you don't think getting like a Carvin tube power amp, and the line6 hd pro, it wouldn't work out very good? I was thinking about experimenting with some Bugera amps, they are cheap enough. I could get two of them for the price of one amp that I would really like lol. Well, actually probably all of them for the price of the amp I really want lol.
