wish i9 could help u out there, but cant

i will add a word of caution - esp. depending on the type of music you do ---

certain genres do NOT lend them selves to something "different" . . . i mean, i can just imagine what type of dumb looks and snyde remarks i would get if i were passing out hop hop/rap cds in this format to people where i live -- it just wouldnt work -- unless of course i built a clever "campaign" around the passing out of the cd -- sort of some type of "educational pitch" so that they wouldn't have that FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN regarding the "mini/fan" cd

other wise, im sure folk would hardly even take a free cd round this way -- but thats my 2 cents for central va and hip hop rap music expectations --

You bring up a very good point. If I go the route I want, it may not be received well. My CD is going to be country. I'm basically looking for two types of blank CD, for two separate things:

1. A CD for my single
2. A CD for my full album.

I'm always open to suggestions for both, but the CDs I'm currently considering for the full album are these:

http://www.verbatim.com/products/pr...pc_parent=76F06320-48F1-485E-8E286B6E0039C276

But I'm not sure what kind to use for singles.

As I said before, I'm open to suggestions for the single and for the full album.

again im slow on lthe uptake

why are you looking for waht appears to me to be such drastically different "cdr's" for each release?

the obvious answer is {i guess, maybe, perhaps, . . . ahh hell i dont know!!!} you want people to be able to distinguish each release from the other -- if that is the case -- wouldnt "cover art" do the smae thing?

oh and by the way -- i know this will seem like one hell of a stretch -- but sheit if nelly can do it, why cant i? --

if u wanna try to collaborate on a county/hip hop song, let me know!!!! like i said, nellly did it!!!

I'll keep that in mind. What did you have in mind? Something like what Nelly & Tim McGraw did with "Over & Over"?

I'm not really sure. I guess I figured it would be a little different. I'd like to be able to distinguish the single from the album, but I suppose I could do as you suggested and just use cover art to do that.

Which CDs do you use for your stuff?

honestly i have never put that much "stock" in cd choices. i have used sony, maxel, etc.--whatever was cheaper at wal mart -- althought this was when i was only passing out freebies . . . the cds i have for sale at cdbaby.com/gullyjewelz were recorded onto TAYO YUDEN which i do have a hankering for !!!

I'm going to assume, by you wanting blank CDs, that you plan on duplicating them yourself. I have to agree with gully...DO NOT go with a CD that's foreign to a majority of people. That "FanCD" is an interesting idea, but it's a gimmick...and it's probably not cheap. For the price of blanks these days, it's way less expensive to buy standard size anyway. Taiyo Yuden is the way to go for quality, but there are other options price-wise. Let your cover art distinguish your product...don't scare off potential customers...even for a giveaway. Check out www.supermediastore.com for great prices on blank CDs, from Linkyo (cheap, but I've yet to have a problem with them) to Taiyo Yuden (probably the best rated) and anything in-between.

And...for your own sake...don't write on them with a pen of any kind. Sends a message of complete lack of professionalism. Use either decent labels (not the best way to go, but an option), or else buy an Epson r200 printer ($100) and printable CDs for a very decent looking product and not a lot of money. It'll be a worthwhile investment. Good luck and let us know how you make out!

Has anyone ever heard of "Fan" CDs, like these:

http://www.cdman.com/store/fancd.html

And probably a better question, does anyone know where I can BUY them blank? I want to use them for singles that I hand out to people.

I've seen these before. I think I had some promo stuff handed to me at a concert on this. It looked pretty interesting - but not that impressive. You'd probably be better off going for a standard cd-r with direct printing, as previously suggested.

As for buying them blank, I have no idea.

If you want something trendy to catch peoples attention right off the bat, why not try the cd-rs that look like vinyl? I know Staples sold them periodically as a promo item. The 'labels' looked like a Sun Records label...sort of. That might be beneficial in the country genre.

RickW, invisiblenemies:

So should I or shouldn't I use these Digital Vinyl ones by Verbatim?

http://www.verbatim.com/products/pr...pc_parent=76F06320-48F1-485E-8E286B6E0039C276

I think they've got a very unique look to them.

I'm also going to check into those Taiyo Yuden

I've got my cover art done, I just need to come up with my album art.

My wife actually bought me the r200 for my birthday, so I'll be using that to print off all my stuff.

I don't see why not. Seems ok to me.

I don't see why not either. They'll be unique and people will get a kick out of them. Just remember, they'll see the cover art first, so make sure that's eye catching also.

BTW - your wife's a very smart lady! Congrats on the R200...and happy birthday (belated?). :)

Thanks! :-)

Anyway, my real concern then WRT the printer is the amount of ink I'll use...

I think my cover art is pretty eye-catching. I just need to come up with a good design for the CD and a good design for the single.

Yes, the R200 will go through ink...and if you buy Epson's ink, it'll cost ya! (around $75). But...if you go to the link I gave you previously, they sell it for around $20 + shipping. I buy from them and it works great, so why spend the extra $$. Just a head's up. Good luck!
