It's been a few years since I bought a new synthesizer. I own a Korg DS8, an M1, and a NS5R Synth Module.

I am basically looking for something with good "band" sounds: brass, woodwinds, etc. I do not need a "workstation," as I do all of my sequencing on the computer. I also am looking for something that won't break the bank.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Maybe a motif ES rack? "Band" sounds are somewhat hard to get, but Yamaha is pretty good for realistic sounds. Better than Korg. Korg has some terrific pads and synthy sounds, but not particularly good woodwind sounds. Yamaha has a great flute, pan flute, decent Bassoon. The Korg X50 has a pretty nice oboe but thats about it in the wind dept.

I love the Korg X50. It has a ton of good sounds. Nice low strings, great pads, etc. It has a lousy piano though. Still, its worth looking at for $699.

Minimoog Voyager rackmount if the full performer edition is too much for the bank. No midi studio should be without one!

It certainly is a nice synth, but I think he is looking for a rompler that is sample-based to do the brass and woodwind stuff.
