Slowing becoming un-noob.
Anyone have any suggestions. I searched and really couldn't find too many that seemed to have good reviews.

Under $50 is preferable. Or if it is above 50, then it would be handy to have a box that allows me to connect two instruments. (Keyboard and guitar)

Thanks!

I have...

fantastic D.I. boxes...and they get excellent reviews.

However, they cost quite a bit more than $50. Is that a hard budget ceiling for you?

Having said that...The very cheap Behringer silver box actually does a pretty clean job as an active D.I. No complaints using it at church or with the live band.

As a bassist, I've spent LOTS on my D.I. options...worth it to me, might not be for you.

For a "dark horse" boutique D.I. try the Simon Systems DB-1A (www.skeng.com)...I got mine used for about $125 (new it's closer to $300) and it sounds every bit as pristine as the Avalon U5...just a fantastic DI box.

We use the Whirlwind DI boxes live, and they do a fine job for $42. I suspect they would be fine for recording. If you decide to spend more, I have and am a big fan of the Radial JDI.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the Behringer DI... I've sold it long ago... but it was a nice box for the price... and you can "take two, they're small"

Really tough to beat the Radial DIs---but you did say $50 and under:

If you need features like pads/speaker tapping, ground lifts, link/through jacks, HF filters, limiters, phase reverse, and/or two-channels, the best deals (active or passive) for $50 and under would be the ART lines of DIs. I've used an ART DPDB for years between my floor modelers and amps/FOH and it's worked great for live gigs (my Radial units stay home for the critical stuff). I didn't really like the PDB for instrument-->recorder (i.e., no external preamp in the signal chain).

I picked up a Behri active DI to try it out but (1) the battery is an absolute monster to install/change and (2) I found it to introduce hiss. The ART active and passive units are noticeably more noise-free.

You could always pick up a version of the ART Tube MP. It can be a nice instrument DI. The basic version sells for $30 at MF, and there are some other variations of the MP available for under $50. It also serves as a mic pre with phantom power and phase reverse.

If you wait to buy a Radial DI, you'll only have to buy once.

And if you buy a Radial, the JDI is really nice.

I think GT makes a simple DI that's pretty cheap. I've not used one, but I generally like their stuff. If you want to spend more for a tube DI, the discontinued GT Ditto is a real bargain. Price dropped like a rock when they introduced the Brick. Can now often be found for @ $150 or so.

I have Behringer ultra DI 400P Behringer Ultra G and Whirlwind IMP 2 and they all work just the same and one is just as reliable as the other.

for the money I would go with the Behringer Ultra DI 400 P

I have a standard Behri DI & a Behri bass DI- both do the job quite well.

Another vote for Radial, great boxes but way over budget

here is an inexpensive alternative to a DI that works very nicely for just transforming a HI Z to a Low Z signal directly into a snake or directly into the XLR in at the console works good for either live sound or recording aplications.
but kind of depends on what your needs are.

If you don't mind wiring your own connectors the Edcor Audio Match Masters have decent specs and very reasonable prices.
