I have been mulling this over in my head for quite a while and could really use you peeps to help me put light on this situation,

Im looking at going protools, Im in two minds about this. I use cubase currently and I love using it, its got all I need and so much more to grow. I also have unlimeted expansion abillities. And the way protools is structured I just have a morale obligation against it. I dont understand the need for the "professional standard" and all the people who use protools as a reason to use a studio. Not to mention the combatibility being restricted to AVID.

BUT!!! and a very big but. . . being back at uni, doing related work makes using cubase very hard. our uni Is based around Protools and logic, Logic is out of the running because I can't afford a mac, And dont really like the Idea of hackintoshes. We do have cubase but it is 4 studio, which makes it as useless for transfering work as the others.

Which is why Im thinking protools, I have alot of recording work to do this semester. and Im thinking if I use protools, I can record at uni and take it home and vice versa. Making work a hell of alot easier. I can also collaborate very easily with others Im working with. I was in the studio earlier this year recording drums and It took me about an hour to sort out all the files from one programe to the other. Also taking a course in music production learning pro tools can't really go against me.

It would have to be m-powered because I dont like the m-box, Im finding it hard finding the technical differences between them. I would have to buy an M-audio fast track ultra 8r because that meets my requirements and I cant afford the 2626. So any advice reguarding the interface would help alot.

Thanks for the time helping me put light on this decision, I want to make it clear I dont want to go protools for protools sake and that itz teh bst! Just for a hell of alot of time saved recording and transfering work between multiple sources.

Well, if its a business decision then you have to leave emotion out all together. Fact is, musicians/joe public do factor in emotion however and they respond to the word Protools as if it has magic powers or something. If you learn PT I am sure you will pick up work ( if you are also good at what you do ).

I know its the best thing if I switch. Im finding it hard to hand over the cash for somthing I wouldnt buy, but have too because of other peoples preferences.

for people who know protools and its interfaces, Other than compatibility what is the difference between M-powered and LE? From what I have read people say that there is and there isnt so I dont really know the difference.
Also Would it be better to get an Fast track Ultra 8r or a new Mbox pro. In terms what would you go for?

id quite like to try pro tools as well...just can justify buying an interface for that pleasure...it wont do what Live does anyway, none that I have tried have, but it would be interesting to see what the fuss is

I had it for a month, it was great...shit instruments though if that was a deal breaker

I need to go pro tools so I can work with other people. Why does every one hate the interfaces you can use with tools!!!!

Live will be easy for you cause it can trigger samples really easily. Isn't it made to be used live, so the interface is really simple and clear?

yeah thats how it started...but its far more than that now, ive recorded full guitar songs on it with ease...not sure what you mean by triggering samples though??

you mean like loops? dont use them much, and any DAW can do that

not that it really matters if you reckon you need PT to work with other folks and have made that firm decision
