OMG!
I'm seeing people selling Cubase SX for like $50. Is there a chance that these are legit? Or is it just piraters?

I'm just asking out of curiosity. It seems a bit absurd that someone would sell a $600 program for $50.

Either illegal pirate copies or just starting prices for auctions that will finish much higher.

Why not post a link to one you're looking at? There are usually tell tale signs. Did you check the feedback rating for any of the sellers?

Also I don't know how much SX 2.0 goes for on the used market.

He's only got a 1. Another I saw came with tons of Waves Plugins, I'm pretty sure that one is pirated.

Looks dodgy although as I said in the edit to my original post I'm not sure how much SX 2.0 is worth used (I believe you can transfer the registration legally).

Naff all info in the auction and just 1 positive feedback (and that from a seller), I reckon I'd steer well clear.

I never look at software to buy, unless there are pictures. And I'm not talking about a picture someone ripped off the manufacturers website. I'm talking honest-to-goodness home photos that show original packaging, discs, manuals, dongles, warranty cards, etc., and preferably at least 1 photo that shows every singal piece of the product your bidding on. Harder for a pirateer to fake that kind of verification.

Have you thought about SE? Are you sure you need the funcionality within SX that is missing from SE or even SL?

You can always upgrade and it'll cost you no more than if you'd just bought SL or SX in the first place.

Just a thought.

FYI- if you don't get a legit warranty registration card with it ( and I don't mean one of the extra foreign country registration cards that come with it) or get the current one transfered- there is no upgrade path. Period. And with the rapid pace of technology- no upgrade path is not an option, you'll soon discover. There is a warranty transfer application that needs to be signed be the previous owner, ( and transfer fee, was $50 not sure now) if it's been previously registered.

Sounds like I've been there, eh...? Fortunately, I was able to get the ownership of the used software, which i purchased legimately from the first owner, transfered to me- but i certainly panic'd for a while.

Be informed.

One thing I REALLY like about Cubase SX is the mixer window. How it can show all the inserts and stuff. Also, with SE.. I can only have 2 inserts on each track or something like that. Meh. I'd also be limited in tracks.

If N-Track wasn't so damn ugly.. I'd be all about it.

I think you might be thinking of LE, you'll have 5 inserts per track (same as SL) and 48 tracks with SE.

Still if you want the real deal you want the real deal. :)

There's a comparison chart here
