Hi.

Deciding on which sequencer to get, and I'm thinking about Logic 5.5

I'm not getting this because it is cheap, but because through swotting up, it seems like it is still very widely used.

I will be doing trance and dance tracks, will this s/w suit me?

I have never used any of this type of s/w before, so I am not sure whether it may be in my interests to get familiar with a more powerful piece of s/w, as I won't get confused by having used many different types before?!?

Suggestions welcome.

Uhmmm do you have a bunch of synths just lying around? Or you recording audio are do you just want to make beats? If it's the latter I believe you should check out Propellerheads Reason.

Hi.

I'm going to be doing dance/trance tracks. It will be 95% midi, at some point I will want to add some vocals, but not just yet.

I'm just getting my set-up together now, and currently only own a Korg MS2000R, so I'm at a stage of deciding what sequencer will best suit my needs.

Is Reason what I should be going for? What about Sonar?

For 95% midi I'd go with Reason... You will get more sounds that way. When your ready to start adding vocals I'd pick up Sonar over logic.

Cool, cheers.

Reason it is.

The big difficulty with getting logic for PC is that it is difficult to find good drivers if you are running on XP.

That said, I have managed to get logic 5+ working on XP satisfactorily.

However, because I use an ISIS soundcard that came bundled with Logic, and because there are no XP drivers for it, I have stayed with Windows ME, and it has proved to be a stable, versatile and productive workhorse.

I wouldn't say that logic is the best choice of product for doing your sort of music. Others have suggested Reason. Maybe you could consider Fruity Loops too.

I have experience with Sonar, and I think it is an extremely good package, even though the wiring in my head suits Logic more.

See if you can get demo versions to try out.
