Howdy folks!
Does anybody know of a Bulletinboard that deals with live sound? I've got some live sound questions

Maybe proaudio.net? You might try your questions here...several of us do live stuff also.

OK, first live sound question coming up

Truth is,
I figure a lot of folk here do live sound or have done live sound, but since some folk are SO "sensitive" even about whether someone WRITES IN ALL CAPS or not, I wanted to through out a "feeler", first.

Anyway, the church where I'm at just ordered 2 SM81's for choir and dramas...and when not using them for that I will be using it for an overhead for the drums. So:

1) What kind and how bad of bleeding problems can I expect? Should it be enough to isolate "sections" of the platform? I would really like to use live music instead of tracks if possible. Has anyone used these mics similarly?
2) How's this sound for the kit...I will have 5 channels available and am using a 58, 3 cheap Proams, and 1 SM 81. So the 58 in the kick, a cheap mic each on snare and high hat, an 81 overhead, and probably not use the other channel or maybe on the ride since I use that a lot.

Thanks for the input

We have a really nice drum setup in our church, but it has changed very much from our old building to our new. The old building seated about 350-400 and was a perfect rectangle. We used one of those lexan drum shields around the entire kit to minimalize bleeding onto the stage. Then the kit was miced up. I think we were usinf AKG C1000's for overheads, they were pretty close for overheads.
Our new auditorium seats about 2500, so the setup is different. The Lexan shield is gone, but we still have mics on the whole kit. 2 overheads, kick, small condensors on the toms, snare. I could probably look and find out exactly what mics we're using now, I honestly haven't looked at the kit for some time.

So, my only suggestion would to be try out mics on the toms. In a lot of P&W music, it really makes a great sound. Other than that, you have to base your setup on the size of your room and experiment until you get the best, and best controlled, sound you can!
