Hi everyone. I am as green as it gets when it comes to Home recording. In fact I want to record the Worship Team at church. The equipement we have is a Mackie 24.4 (I think) and a tascam 4 track (model unsure) The instruments are two keyboards, electronic drums, bass guitar, electric guitar, accoustic guitar(with line out) a choir, and three othe miked singers (one is the lead singer) We also have a miked flute and sometimes unmiked horns. We rock for God and I am not sure the best way to get it all on tape.
Please help with all your suggestions. Thankyou

No6coppa,

Hey I'm into secular music but I don't descriminate. I'm also pretty new at recording so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Well there are several ways to do it. I assume with the Makie you could mic up everything and mix it down to four channels into your 4trac. If you are a newbie though that could get pretty hairy what with levels and mixing of 24 inputs, not to mention how much extra mic bleed you would get from all those mics on stage. If I were you I would start small. You could get two good mics and do a simple live recording with them into channels 1 and 2 of your 4trac. See how you like it and then try it with four mics into all four channels of your 4trac. Then you would mix those four channels down onto a stereo cassett or whatever. Keep it simple and practice. I've gotten decent recordings with just two mics. In the old days that's all they had and we charish much of the music to this day. Good luck!

What mics do you have and how many?
Will the guitars be playing through amps ?.
