Hi guys, just wondering if any of you guys have done live mixing with DAW. If yes, what kind of setup you use. Thks.

I've been using my DAW setup for our band to pracice with. We're just using an acoustic, bass, electric, electronic drum kit and 3 vox and listen back with headphones.

I'm just using a Soundcraft EPM8 desk with the inserts running to a Audiotrak MAYA1010. I use samplitude and monitor the tracks I need.

I'm just using compressors on the vox and a bit of reverb. Then I'm using Amplitube on the Electric and Bass guitar and I'm running Battery3 for the drum kit.

This is pushing my system pretty hard when everything is running, as i have to put the latency quite low (128 samples) for there not to be a weird delay on everything, but it copes (AMD 64 3000).

Ideally, if i had a digital desk lying around (like a yamaha o1V), i would use that but I don't so I use the DAW route. Then again I wouldn't have the luxury of Amplitube, but I wouldn't have the latency either.

I just don't think its worth the effort to set up a DAW for a live act, unless you really have lots of time on your hands, have a fast system and have everything worked out to the tee! There is just so much that can go wrong with software that is buggy and such things.

The best is to run a normal setup and use outboard gear - and if you want to record just connect your pc's soundcard to the direct outs on your desk.

Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks man!... just wonder if someone had used DAW to do live mixing :D. I'd heard many good things about MADI.. do you think it will work?

pretty much any big-name act that you go see on tour now is being mixed live thru a DAW...so yea, it's been done - a lot.
