I am planning to play a few shows, hopefully more, in the coming months far away from my home. I will be playing acoustic/elec. guitar for these. In bands past, I played electric almost exclusively so to go to a gig, I just grabbed my amp and went. I am trying not to buy an acoustic amp and my acoustic sounds terrible (like dwight yoakam's - I mean I like the guy but whoa that's a tin can with strings if I ever heard one) OK, sorry for the digression.

So, assuming that the venues I play at have a house PA (used to lug that around too) can, or should, I get a DI to run the acoustic through then to the PA? I've searched but most posts are for DI's in the studio. I'd much rather put a DI in my suitcase than carry an amp around, especially through the airports. Looking at a countryman 85. Cool, thanks.

i have a fishman platinum, but most places, I just plug straight into the board. My guitar has it's own preamp, though. takes a battery.

If the PA board/head is on stage with you, there's no real point in using a DI. If the board is in the house and there's a snake on stage, get a DI.

Thanks guys, yeah my gibson does not have a preamp. I am also thinking that most places I will play will have a snake on stage, that's how I remember most of the places I used to play that had house PA's, but I didn't ever gig with my acoustic then, or if it was an open mic, we would just mic it up.

Make sure you get an active DI, then. Baggs makes a real nice one with 3 band EQ, level control, phantom power, polarity switch, and a sweepable mids/notch filter.

Yes, thank you. The countryman I am looking at is active as well.
