Wow thanks, alot of nice compliments and some good stuff to work on from everyone.

The band is called The R101, and "they" are not really a band at the moment. its really just my brother who plays drums in my band that ive posted songs from.

Hes got a huge pile of songs to get off his chest, and i need practice recording, so were doing it like this for the moment, but hes trying to recruit people, myself included to turn it into a full band!!!!!

So on that track and tracks in the future hes playing every thing untill further notice.

thanks again

Finster was totally right when he said about the cymbals.
Bring them down a bit as they are too much.

I notice distortion on the vocals a few times.
I think this is distortion at the recording stage. Its nothing major and Ive heard a good amount of songs with unintentional distortion on the vocals that doesnt sound too bad really.

The distortion can be tames by automating the vocal volume as I said in my last post.

I was bored so I had a quick go at cleaning the mix up. Hope you dont mind. :)

I think this could be a pretty nice mix if you changed the things I was talking about.

Ill check it out as soon as i get home, at the moment im stuck with laptop speakers, so its no use listening, and no i dont mind at all, what did you do to it?????

Pheww. :)
I played about with the EQ to clean the mix up and bring out the vocals as being more dominant in the mix. I didnt use compression.
I was tempted to use a stereo imager to try and balance that left guitar, but decided against the idea.

Hope you like it.

also, about those cymbols, the majority if the hot sound is comeing form the overheads, and some from a room mic, Before i ever posted this song i automated the cymbol hits down (you should have heard them before, jesus!!!) but i didnt want to eq them differntly cuz i likes the rest of the sounds coming through jsut the way they were, what im affraid of is taking them down even more with automation and then hearing a "dip" in the drums, cuz everything else will come down with it. Make sense?

Any suggestions?

hmmmm....

I haven't read the replies, but....

I think it's fine where it's at. It's got this dirty/vintage quality that fits this style of music.

I would definetly try out volume automation on the OHs.
When the cymbals do hit they dominate the drums anyway so if done well you shouldnt hear a dip in the drums.

Another way is you could put a multiband compressor on the OHs so that it compresses the cymbals mostly rather than all the drums in the OHs. I would maybe automate the bypass of the multiband so its only on when the cymbals are hit. This way might not work as well as the volume automation.

Yeah play about with these methods to bring the cymbals down a bit, but I would probably go for the volume automation.

Hope it goes well.

Yo, i finally had time to really lisen to what you did to the song, and it sounds GREAT, and my brother (the band) loved it also. it really put a nice finishing touch on it. thanks, now i feel as though ive done something worth listening to.

good stuff man...i love the panning...you truly did an awsome job..
the only thing would be to bring the vocals up just a tad....
but beside that i think you really did get the vibe they were shooting for..

good stuff man..
