Hello Folks,
As a dyed in the wool antimonachist I have to give thanks to the Queen of Australia (England, Scotland & the Commonwealth) for having her "official" birthday this weekend & therefor creating a "LONG WEEKEND that gave me a chance to fiddle with the guitar balance on this track.
Sorry only 192k MP3 but you've all heard of my ISP problem (mind you - miracle of miracles - this upload took only 2 goes & 25 minutes).

Two guitars, bass, drums, tambourine & mellotron (wav files there of anyway) in an attempt to create a garagey tribute (currently without vocals & solo but they're coming from Luoisiana & are probably mired in raw petrolium) to one Brian Wilson in as much as it's MONO - not in a musical genius sense.
Any suggestions re the mix?

Hey Ray, wanna check this out, I follow the directions on the link for thr free download(enter the code) wait for the countdown to complete...then nothing happens...if I click on the link again it starts the cycle over with a new code/countdown? I'm sure its me...what am I doing wrong?:o

I've just gone through the process to check & all was fine!
Click link,
enter code,
hit enter,
wait for countdown,
click REGULAR DOWNLOAD,
ad pops up
then save dialogue box pops up
select open or save.

The main rhythm guitar takes on the role of lead vocals in this mix. They take the focus temporarily while the wait from Louisiana. It will probably need to be set back a touch once vocals are added. The drums need a bit of a push to make them stand out a bit more. Backup should be good as is.... Nice creative piece with cool and interesting chord patterns....:cool:
 
I dunno Ray, I like the first mix better. This one sounds scooped and thin. The only problem with the other mix, to me, was just a levels issue with the two guitars. You had one trouncing all over the other in volume, but their tones were okay.

You want some real drums for this? I might be able to knock something out tomorrow or tuesday.

I'll listen back to the original (on this link) & undo any EQing I did - not that I did much at all - it may be the drastic drop in levels & the competition with the tron samples.
If you can't do any drums tht's OK too. Don't cause yourself any grief over it.

Thanks mate. There are a bunch of weird/lazy shapes for fairly common chords in the chorus that I chanced upon whilst fiddling about. (I had to use an online chord namer to work out what they were).
 
Nice structure, some really nice chord progressions in there. The sound of the guitars needs love. Too much treble in there. Trying to turn the sound up even a little to have a close listen to the bass hurts my ears. I think I can identify part of the problem in the first 0.2 seconds of the song: hiss. Exacerbated by your EQ settings I think. So next tip would be to also give the bass a more front stage role. Turn them into a solid foundation for your guitars. This will only work if you sort the drums out a bit, though. Otherwise your bass is going to drown your drums out. Try playing only the guitars and the bass and tweak those out before you add the rest. That usually works for me. More mellotron! I like to use that kind of sound to envelope the rest of the instruments. Not in your face, but impossible to ignore.
 
I like this track a lot. Agreed, drums are hurtin'. I think the synth or whatever the pad line is sounds slightly out of tune with the guitars.
