I'm running out of thread titles........sorry. :(

Anyway, this is a song about how much I hate winter and long for the dog days of summer, even though it is summer. Just pretend I wrote this in a few months. :D

This is what became of the 30 clip I posted in the "Who am I ripping off" thread about a week ago. https://homerecording.com/bbs/gener...c/who-am-i-ripping-off-36-second-clip-346341/

Here's the "finished" version: DOG'S DAY

Any thoughts on the mix and anything else that would make it better are always appreciated.

Thanx

LYRICS: (with stupid commentary....I was bored)

Dog's Day (words and music by RAMI)

Summer's gone and the moon's all the rage............. (More night than day in the winter)
Every night is getting longer.................................. (That again)
Shiver in the hall .................................................. (It's even cold in the fucking house)
Whispers in the walls............................................. (The wind is some spooky ass shit)
I've give it all for a dog's day....................................(I wish it was fucking summer)

I should have known it was destined to fall.................. (Summer's over......."fall", get it?)
Autumn made it so much clearer ..................................("autumn", get it?)
You come on way too strong........................................ (fucking winter)
And then you stay too long...........................................(fuck off winter)
My mind belongs to a dog's day.....................................(I really wish it was fucking summer)

Chorus:
A bad time to be breaking down............ (Canadian drivers, you know what I'm saying)
A bad place for a fall .............................(Canadian walkers, you know what I'm saying)
My heart's hard as the frozen ground ..................... (I hate this shit)
And I'd give it all away for a dog's day......................(I wish it was god damn summer)

I can't recall how I feel when I smile................................. (This weather pisses me off)
Pictures in my head are fading............................................(I've forgotten what summer feels like)
Go back from where you came........................................... (fuck off winter)
I much prefer the rain........................................................(what it says)
I'll take the pain of a dog's day..................................(The worst summer day is still better than winter)

Chorus:
A bad time to be breaking down (see 1st chorus)
A bad place for a fall
My heart's harder than frozen ground
And I'd give it all away for a dog's day

Tis the season when everything glitters but nothing's shining................ (Xmas fucking sucks)
So turn the page on Indian summer.................................................. (party's over homey)
You come on way too strong........................................................ (see 1st verse)
You always stay too long..............................................................(same)
But my heart belongs to a dog's day............................................ (same)

Chorus: (etc.......)
A bad time to be breaking down
A bad place for a fell
I'm so tired of the frozen ground
So I'll give it all away for a dog's day

Super clean...i love the vocals, so tight....its an unusual sounding track, quite sparse but i think it works..that snare really pops, you have excellent sounding drums mate

Thanx a lot K.

I'm not sure about the volume of the guitars. I bring them up, I bring them down, and I can't really hear if they are where they should be.

I tried something I've never done on my vocals, so I'm glad that worked.

Thanx man.

fooking hell RAMI.

I didn't settle into to this immediately. I spent the intro trying to work out what was wrong; I thought maybe the kick and snare were overpowering or something,
but man, as soon as that verse came in, it made sense.
You really know how to groove, huh?

I still think the kick is hitting me in the face too much, but who knows.
I'm at 3 way speakers with 12" woofers though, so maybe it's more pronounced to me, or just more apparent?

Vocals sound absolutely fantastic. Everyone should be taking notes. <licks pencil tip>

Thanx Stenn. I might have gone too much in the other direction from what I was doing a few songs ago. I kept getting told that my drums need to come up for 2 or 3 songs that I posted. So the last 2 or 3, I've been bumping the drums up a little more each time. I might very well have crossed the line. If so, I'll bring them down, or at least the kik.

I really appreciate the help.

I'm gona go ahead and just compliment your vocals again dude. Seriously.

I know it's nothing new, but fuck.

Oh btw, RE the rip-off thread- the way you come into the chorus makes me think of Def Leppard - Armageddon it.
It's not especially similar, but it made me think of it.

Thanx. Really? It's the thing I'm the most insecure about. I can get a good vocal take if I know I'm alone at home, but even then, I think the whole world can hear me and I tighten up. I've sang live for years and can belt it out on stage like nobody's business. I still have to learn how to just SING in the studio.

I felt pretty good for this one, though.

Ha. I totally get that. I'll never sing if there's a chance someone's knocking about near the door,,,,,or house.....lol.

I get the feeling a bad take for Rami might still be pretty hot though. :p

Oh, you'd be wrong. It often takes me a couple of takes just to get the volumes right in the headphones. Until that happens, you should hear what gets recorded (and ERASED). Sometimes I listen back and go "How the fuck can anyone sing a complete verse a 1/4 tone sharp!?!?" If I solo it, I'm totally in tune with myself. But with the music, it's hor-awful. :D

I just did a re-mix. Did a few things to the guitars.

I also edited my first post and added the lyrics, with my commentary. i was bored. :D

Just had a listen on my headphones and everything sounds pretty good. I'm envious of your guitar skills - I noticed especially tasty tones coming from your axe on this one right away... :D:D:D:D

I started listening and thought, I've heard this before. Then I realised it was the thing you posted of you humming.

What can I say - this is really good. You've got the mix down, as far as I can tell. The snare still has that amazing pop to it you had in a previous one of yours I commented on recently - it sounds a little boxier this time, I guess you've eq'd out some higher frequencies compared to last time (it was the Rolling Stones cover)? It works, though. You're really churning them out now, Rami - I'm well impressed!

The harmony vox sound pretty sweet. Nice work there.

I'm not excited about the distortion on guits at the beginning. I guess it's not bad, just not a tone that I found great.

It sounds like there's some hiss on the vox in the first verse. Maybe some background noise that your mic picked up?

I'm digging the bass solo and drum fills. Fun panning on the latter especially!

Douche... You made me download your crap on my PC. You'd better be glad I liked it! You know, it never occurred to me how much you sound like a (serious) Weird-Al. I really liked the song a lot! However, for some reason the bass solo seemed imminent. That's not a bad thing, I just marked its onset with a mental 'a-break it down!' I love the harmonies. The melodies are great. They do remind me of something; an indie artist on the net called Arman Bohn stylistically but melodically, I may never know. It's just one of those melodies that sounds familiar. Then again, what song doesn't sound like some other song somewhere? I really like it!

I love the vocal melody through 'for a dog's day.' That phrase also seems to be fairly (and obviously purposefully) isolated which makes it cooler. You did a fantastic job on this track!

Cool. Thanx Ido.

Thanx Johny. I didn't really do anything different to my snare. But it might have needed a little tweaking in tuning. sometimes the exact same thing sounds different in another song.

Thanx VHS. I'll look into the hiss you're talking about when I re-visit this. It might be on the guitar track, actually.

Thanx Prop. I hate the fact that I sound like Weird Al sometimes. Got nothing against the guy, but I'm not trying to sound like him either. I've been told that before, so you're not imagining things.

Funny, that bass break was a last minute decision. There were actually rythm guitars still paying there and I was planning on the guitar solo taking up the whole break. I think I just muted a few things to hear how the bass sounded and ended up liking that.

Sorry about people having to download. I thought my link opened the song right away. I got to find a way to change that.

It's not a bad thing. He actually has a pretty impressive voice.
(I was joking, by the way... I didn't mind downloading it. Now I can listen all I want without any hassle!)

Wow man! great track. Also dig the drums and drummer! EXCELLENT!

cheers
