Line out to line in....

Ok.. I have my guitar going into the input and I'm running the Line out on my amp to the line in on my soundcard. Why exactly is this not working right? I've also tried going into an effects pedal and then out to the soundcard and get no sound. Any ideas? I mean I know it's not going to sound great but I would expect it to work at least. This is really frustrating. Thanks.

What soundcard are you using? Do you have access to the settings or mixer options for your SC?

look in the windows volume control, in the options there will be "recording" select line in, be sure it's not on "mute"

unless you have a "real" soundcard

Thanks for the replies... I think I need a better soundcard. I tried hooking up a friends POD to it and still no luck.

Of course I plan on getting a better sound card(and very soon at that) but I'm still trying to use what I have in the meantime to experiment.

Yes, I messed with the settings and made sure nothing was muted and all that. I was actually able to get a very weak signal is all.

I understand my question was very broad... I was trying to figure it out when I posted and was hoping for any information I could get and was getting a little frustrated at the time.

Do you think a DI box would do it, even with the crappy card?

That should work, check your windows mixer settings
