I HAVE A SOVTEK MIG50H THAT HAS A LINE OUT. IF I PLUG THIS INTO MY TASCAM RECORDER WILL I FRY THE CHANNEL? HOW IS A LINE OUT DIFFERENT THAN A DIRECT RECORDING OUT?

Not to familiar with the Sovtek, but My Alesis mixer has direct-outs and line-outs. My direct-outs are RCA-type and the line-outs are balanced TRS-type. But let me ask you a question, are you trying to hook up your Sovtek line-out into your Tascam direct out?? If so,it'll never work. The configuration s/b Sovtek line-out to Tascam INPUT.
Which Tascam recorder do you own?
Also, direct-outs and line-outs are either TRS balanced (Tip,Ring,Sleeve) or unbalanced (Tip,Sleeve).
Don't mean to imply that you don't know what you're trying to do,just need you to clarify your question.
Peace

ahh! but it will work!

It just wont sound very good...

If it's a line out, then it is simply a line out after the pre amp stage of the amp. How is a line out different than a direct recording out? hmm... nothing much really, a direct recording out on an amp (like on my Mesa DC-3) generally has some sort of buffers or somthing that will simulate the sound of the amp pushing a cabinet. A line out is sort of the same, but not tailored for recording. Sovtek probably intented this out to slave anothe head to it.

MISTERQCUE,
THE SOVTEK IS A GUITAR AMP HEAD. I RECORD WITH A 488 MKII. I GUESS WHAT I AM REALLY ASKING IS WHETHER OR NOT MY LINE OUT FROM THE HEAD IS PUSHING TOO MUCH POWER TO HOOK IT UP TO A LINE IN ON THE RECORDER.

JAMES...THANKS FOR THE HELP. I REALLY JUST WANT TO SEE IF MY NEW HEAD IS WORKING AND I DONT HAVE A CABINET YET. I BOUGHT IT ON..GULP...EBAY. I JUST DONT WANNA FRY A CHANNEL ON MY RECORDER.

THANKS AGAIN GUYS
