hi,
1. i was wondering if there is any difference between cable for balanced microphone signal and for line balanced signal. any ideas?

2. i've read that disconnecting ground line at the end of cable that is plugged into output helps avoiding ground loops. but do we do that always or only in case of ground loop occurrence? (according to Aphex manual it's better to disconnect it at output).

regards!

1. The only difference is the connectors.

2. You only do that if you have a ground loop that you can't get rid of. It is not standard practice, otherwise the cables would be made that way.

I use the same cable - Mogami 2792

There's some misunderstanding about that. In order for a signal to work it needs a line signal and a ground. The "lifting" you're talking about refers to not connecting the shield at one end. Each end is still grounded - if it weren't there wouldd be no sound, the shield is just lifted on one end. Here's how I do mine:

I make all my cables like that. If there's a ground loop problem at gigs I usually don't have time to modify the cable, it needs to be that way already, and there's no reason to not use cables like this all the time and lots of reasons why you should.
