I have my Line 6 UX2 setup as my sound card. Output is via spdif to a stereo amplifier/speakers.

Recording via Reaper using Guitar Rig 4 as an example.

Listen through headphones-Guitar is totally in sync
Listen via speakers-Very slight latency (to the point that I almost convince myself there isnt).

Any ideas why?

Also...as a little extra - Does Reaper/the UX2 have some automatic noise gate? I am running the UX2 in bypass mode (i.e. just a straight signal-no UX2 effects). What I hear is that from quiet, when I start playing the sound isnt instant. It swells up very quickly.

Thanks in advance.

I found this in an old Sound on Sound review.

"However, it should be pointed out that you can only hear the input with near-zero latency if you monitor via the line outs (or the S/PDIF socket) on the back of the interface — there is, of course, no way to pipe it via your other audio interface without incurring the latency imposed by its buffer settings. This means in practice that if you use the Toneport with another interface, you need to monitor the audio from both interfaces at once when overdubbing to retain the benefits of near-zero-latency monitoring."

Not sure I grasp what the other interface relates to?
