Line 6 Spider 212 150 watt Combo

Any opinions folks? I tried a Behringer V-Ampire combo today,which sounded rather muddy to me on most settings despite the treble knob on full.
Admittedly it was at low volume in store.
V-Ampire is £239 for 100 watt mono combo.
Spider 2 is £329 for 150 watts Stereo.
i havent tried the Spider at all yet.
It seems like a good price to me,,but what do i know?
Not much is the answer.
Im also concerned that whatever i get wont fill the big hole in the sound that my Marshall head and 4 by 12 has been filling for all these years.
My band are a 3 piece, guitar /bass /drums.
All we mike up is the vocals. What do you think?

my answer:
i think you're right. why are you looking at amp modeling stuff? what kind of music are you playing? nothing much sounds like a tube driven 1/2 stack except exactly that, at least to my ears.

Though I own a very nice tube amp (Carr Rambler), I also own a equally nice (in my oppinion) Line 6 Spider 112 and I'll tell you Amp Modeling has come a long way since even the original Line 6 Axsys. Does it sound exactly like the amps they are supposed to model? No. But so close until it's differences are negligible. You owe it to yourself to actually play a 212 for yourself. Tube Snobs don't really "listen" to Line 6. They simply complain.............

I do use the Marshall ,but its a clean sound with a POD for all the effects.Its always been a very thin sounding amp with a serious lack of bass anyway but its all i have.
I do have a 1970s Marshall combo with a tweed front and all that, but after spending £160 to get it fixed several times it still overheats and cuts out after about 30 mins.
and in my opinion its sounds shite anyway. well,,i say shite,,,
but im sure its ideal for some folks.Not me though.
(picture attached)i play in a few bands,,,a 1970s and Glam Rock tribute band,,,a 3 pice powerpop/punk band,,,and a Celtic Rock/Punk band too.All requireing a big guitar sound.
ive always used a clean channel setting and effects.
Have you heard the Spider at all mate ?

... sorry if i came off as a tube snob, guys. i wasn't my intention at all. i think i misread the intention of your first post, which sounded as if you liked your marshall, and were looking for something that could replace it. i was taking an,"if it ain't broke, why fix it ?" approach. i can see from your reply that you have had some problems with your marshall, so that's another story.
yes, i have heard all the line 6 stuff, and i think it sounds ok. in my opinion, the spider amps don't seem to be built too sturdily (cabinets and such), and folks i know who have taken them on the road have had problems. plus side of amp modeling is the ability to get any tone at any volume, which is why i asked what type of music you were playing. i thought maybe it was a volume issue with the marshall (which don't usually shine till they a cranked up pretty good).
anyway, i apologize if you guys took my reply as it wasn't intended. in truth, yes, i am a guy who generally likes tube amps, but i would never slag on anyone who got a tone they dig using any euipment whatsoever.

hey mr m...

... i took a listen, and your spider sounds pretty good. i think the problem i've had with modelling, is due to the tone i go after. i am a plug in and play sorta guy, and i like a fairly clean, round tone, with a bit of grit when i dig into the strings a little more. i haven't heard anything out there that can nail that dynamic to my satisfaction other than a tube amp. it's just a smoother, spongier transition to my ears. it's a specific grey area i'm talking about that just happens to be the sound i can't get anywhere else... but i am always open to checking new stuff out.

No,,,not at all to me!
I hope my last line of"Have you heard the Spider at all mate?" didnt sound like i was in a bad mood. i was genuinely askin if you had thats all. i WILL be tryin one out as soon as i get the chance though, so i hope its as good as i want it to be.
