Line 6 Pod XT and recording

I have a line 6 podxt, a Saffire LE (sound cardy thingy), cubase and my guitar

I've got some demo vst Drums (BSD) which sound great and now I want to start recording guitar.

I have my guitar connected to my podxt and the podxt connected directly into port 1 on my SaffireLE

It sounds awful - tinny and thin and just plain rubbish. Ideally i'd like to mic up my amp, but my neighbours wont appreciate it!

How do you guys record you guitar work?

Soundwise - I'd like to go for Kieth Richards...
 
For that "Keith" sound I'll usually play a Telecaster through a Bandmaster close-mic'd with an sm57. Get's pretty close, but Keith's technique is a little grainier than mine.

What apl said. I'm not sure about the rest of your chain but, pods usually need serious tweaking to get any sort of usable sounds. I've found a few usable sounds with my XT, it took alot of knob spinning, though. Double and triple tracking with complimentary amp and guitar configurations helps to get a truer miced amp sound.
 
Also, make sure the pod is set to the direct studio setting.
 
Make sure you have the cabinet simulator on. If you have it set up to play through a power amp and a cabinet, it will sound thin.
