i've been piecing together my home studio and i've been told the line 6 ux2 would be great for my situation with recording on my computer. im not exactly sure what this gear does other than its a pre-amp with phantom power w/ guitar and mic inputs.

i wanna record solo stuff with acoustic, bass, computerized drums, and vocals, with the occasional electric guitar track. i will be recording the tracks one at a time (solo)

also some people have told me to get the new pod x3 guitar processor im familiar with the first pod but im not sure what the new one does i know it too has mic and guitar inputs.

if anybody could help me understand more about this gear and what the difference is and which one would be the right choice for my situation i'd greatly appreciate it.

Get the UX2.

It's an interface that will let you record onto your computer and a set of guitar processing tools in one,

The pod X3 you mentioned is not first and foremost an interface though it does have a USB port for easy access to your recording software. It would be a good second purchase somewhere down the road if you decide you want to go long into Line 6 world.

.

The UX2 will have all you need for the recording artist...if you are recording yourself...it has like "Amp farm" on it...and several diferent preamp models that many here really put out the cash for...and it is a good interface with a free version of Abelton Live included with the purchase...I have the UX8 for being able to record whole bands...and the UX2 to round out the 10 inputs on My Akai DPS24.

I have a pod x3 that I record with all the time and it's great but I don't know much about the ux2 so I can't really compare them.

The UX2 will enable him to use the vocal preamps and hook up mics as well as instrument preamps and amp models...the power of your computer will be providing the modeling on the UX2.

The X3 does have preamp models and and a XLR in as well. The UX2 probably is a good bet though just because of the price difference.
