I've been reading all the rave on this site about the Line 6 POD. I already have the AX2, and I'm wondering if there is any difference between the recording capabilities of the two...

Also, I bought a Layla almost a year ago when it was on sale (back when it came with the free versions of Cool Edit Pro, Sound Forge XP, CD Architect). It's been in the box ever since...because I've been waiting to get my studio before I gear up. Now I've heard some people saying that the MOTU248 is better than the Layla. Is this true? Maybe it's worth working the system and exchanging the Layla. What do you think??

Thanks in advance...and, by the way, great site. I've been trying to find something like this for a long time.

Who's gonna take back your Layla a year after your purchase? Sounds like a very compassionate retailer. This stuff changes so fast that a year makes a really big difference in the actual retail value.

I bought it from a small shop here in town. The only thing that has changed about the Layla, is that now it doesn't come with all the software it did when I got it. I think they would take it in exchange if I really wanted to....

which is why I asked the question...

i haven't played with the ax2, but it should have a direct out for recording..which would make it better than pod, because it has more amps and effects....on the flextones and the spiders the headphone out doubles as a direct out....

Nate,
What all do you plan to record with your studio? I went from the Layla to MOTU 2408 for two reasons. 1) I wanted LED on my rack gear so that I can monitor signals better for "live" drums. 2) With the MOTU system you can add up three modules to one PCI card. From my experince, the Layal was more user friendly, but if you want the expandability, the MOTU 2408 is the way to go.

I will be recording rock-type music. Lots of miking....
I bought the Layla because I got a great deal (and it was all the rave 1 year ago). I'm trying to configure my system right now, so I'm either going to just keep it and incorporate it into the rig, or possibly exchange it...if I can work it.

I'm going to drop about 10k into gear, but am still learning about all my options and which are better than others. I'll also be working with MIDI a bit.

Thanks

for the $200 bucks, MOTU2408 is a far better gig. Tascam and ADAT ins and outs. ASCI ports. 3 more MOTU link ups. total digital. stereo, LEDs. Mac or PC. Made for every sort of third party out there. Brought to us by the makers of digital preformer. Layla is great and all. but again for the few extra clams... Unicorn wins

I have heard that motu is second in non existant customer support only to Steinberg.
Not knocking the motu though,, I wanna sell my Layla and get one.
One thing nobody has mentioned.... What about Motu 24 bit recording vs. Layla 16 bit recording?
oh.... Maybe someone did mention it but they shoud have STRESSED IT!.
You want an old ugly blackface or a cool lx?
Lala rocks the house! Motu just might rock the world.

Nate, I gotta say...you gotta be one patient dude! I can't imagine sitting on a new Layla and not even using it. You may end up with the perfect system, but I hope you haven't been putting your music on hold for a year (like I have, but at least I can use this Web site as an excuse). And...glad you like the site!
