So . . . which statement is correct? Or do you believe those two statements are internally consistent?
How about these guys, they are wearing regular clothes and the singer likes to turn around and hide from the audience while he mumbles his lyrics? But hey, Fender Twin, so probably they are OK![]()
You're not reading it the way I'm saying it 'cuz you keep slicing everything out of context. I'll try one more time....
When I say I don't care what others use...that means I'm not trying to force anyone to use the gear I use...I'm not going to lose sleep over it...
...however, I DO look at a band as a complete act, so to me it matters because that's how I will judge them.
You say it as though I would walk into a club and look at the band like they were just a picture (like you're showing here)...and then depending on what I see in the still picture...I would decide if I like them or not.

As though the decision is made in the first 3 seconds...

It's an overall perspective based on both listening to them play and watching them and their stage presence, and stage presence isn’t’ JUST about how they move…it’s the whole package.
But no...it's not oh look, the guitar player has a Matchless...therefore he must be good"...
...that's dumb, if you think that's what I'm saying.

Maybe you're on to something there.
If you can’t see that in all the different periods that those pictures were taken…the band has a rather similar look and they are dressed in a specific style…which was always recognized as the punk look and many other bands who played punk, followed a similar look.
It’s not much different than the Beatles in their uniforms from the early days.
Just like the Metal guys have their look…and the Country guys have theirs…etc.
It’s not a question of dressing up in costumes (though for some bands it is)…the point is that the band is bringing both music and visual style to the stage.
Bands that just dress like they pulled something out of a hamper…have NO style.
Point is…IMO a band should bring something to the stage that will be visually and sonically entertaining/appealing/interesting (take your pick)…and the better bands generally do both.
Look at all the pro acts out there...they bring visual style to the stage in most cases, and that also includes their gear...with the exception of some Grung/Alt acts, though even they maintain their Grunge/Alt look, so they've basically turned it into a uniform look that goes with their music.
