I had heard about this site through the bbs here plenty of times, but never used it.

I go to the site figuring I set up an account, manage files, and get links... but it turns out lightningmp3 is just a single page - a front door to a vast, endless cavern full of random files with IDs, and you are emailed a link.

That's all well and good, but I somehow feel strange uploading anything to that site of mine, since it is going into the void, and from there pretty much anything can be done with it.

I don't presume to think my material is of such high value that anyone would want to steal it - I'm just pointing out how in-the-dark you are when posting content to it. That is all.

When I worked on it, all it is, is a simple mp3 upload. The files get assigned a unique name and sits in the folder until someone downloads it. Old files that haven't been downloaded in a long time are deleted, if I remember correctly.

So, unless someone downloads your song (after you post the link), listens to it and steals it, you don't have anything to worry about. :)

Tough nuggets! NL5 is going to release my test acoustic guitar recording! Sure, its 0:01:25 of a single guitar part... but he's totally after ma' shit.

Didn't realise it was owned by someone here - otherwise it would be a little random and creepy, but that clears things up. Handy site :p
 
haha my business blocked lightningmp3... probably based on auto-filter because of the "mp3" portion of the address, but at first I thought "Man - NL5's little site has gotten pretty popular if random IT people have heard of it" :p
 
Lightning mp3 is streaming isn't it? And all files get deleted if they aren't accessed after 90 days. I always liked Lightningmp3. I like it even more now that I know it's run by someone reputable, so to speak.

It's not really streaming, it's direct file access....


As far as the safety of files, since it is a direct file link, someone could download them and use them. If that is a concern, I would find a host that streams - but in all reality, those can be captured as well. 99.9% of the files are never seen by me, I do look at the links occasionally to check for copyrighted material, just to cover my ass, but there are so many uploads, I can't possibly check every one.
