Hey Rami...kick ass tune man! Not much to add that hasent already been said..mix sounds very well balanced...bass guitar and drums work very well together...I think this is my favorite of your guitar work...slide is wicked and fits perfectly in the vibe/feel of the tune....kinda reminds me of the Band Big Sugar and also KingsX......killer stuff..congrats!

This sounds soooo good. I wish I could get my stuff to sound like that. The bass is really nice, it sounds so fat. The rest sounds really good to me as well. Your songs are always really good.
Thanx alot, Coroner. I really appreciate that.

Thanx alot, Queep...You're the second person that mentions King's X. Co-incidentally, my favorite song of their's, so far, is "Dogman":D . Now, I'll have to go listen to some Big Sugar and see what they're all about......:)

I love those BGV's in the bridge, that kind of stuff is so awesome

So its all true what they say...the drum/bass combo is awesome. I feel so...inadequate. Thanks.

I just have to comment on this... I've been listening to this song a lot last couple days - which says about as much about the music as anything else, in my opinoin!

Gotta add a +1 on what everyone is saying about the rhythm section. No wonder you get comments on the bass tone - I don't think it's as much the tone as many people think, but the playing. Excellent playing, it really comes together and grooves hard. (Many people don't realize the impact that a solid kick and solid bass have on the music when they lock in that groove together).

The vocals are pretty sweet too, as are the harmonies.

As for the recording, it's one of those things that it's hard to comment on - it's actually a challenge to listen to the recording because it does the job it's supposed to; it puts me into the song (which works very well in its own right).

I guess if I had to nitpick some things (opinion/style based things, really), here's some stuff I can come up with(listening on headphones right now):

The guitar in some of the spare parts (for example, intro) I could perhaps use a little bit of/more of room sound or something, it just sounds a little too "placed mono" (just a little). Perhaps something like recording the amp with a stereo pair of farther-back mics, using the amp's placement in their stereo field to get some appropriately-panned room space to the track, although that assumes you like your room sound better than any true stereo 'verbs you have. Vocals in the same part seem to my ear to have the right space for their needs.

Distortion tone also is perhaps a little too dense in the low end, coming across slightly muddy to my ear, but again it's more a matter of taste.

On the choked cymble hits, I almost think there's some sort of ringyness in there that I notice, but I dunno what's really going on there, if anything.

When the ride first comes in, it seems kinda wide or somehow perceptually away from the rest of the stuff in a way that somewhat distracts me (or maybe it's just that I usually prefer drums panned from drummers perspective, and I'm always surprised to hear a ride in a spot I'm not used to).

But all that is really just nitpicks and style choices that I fished a bit for in effort to give more feedback other than "I like it!". I really dig the syncopation and groove-lock in the rhythm section, the main riff is catchy and rockin, vocals are nice, harmonies are spot-on and sweet, and the whole presentation works well to make you forget you're listening to a recording and just enjoy the music, which I very much did.

Good job!

I'm pretty sure the Dogman album was the first album where Ty Tabor-the guitarist-switched over to Marshall amps from his 'Mystery Amp"-actually a Norlin Lab Series solid state amp. That Marshall just slams like a sledge hammer on that song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Matta...I really appreciate the in-depth comments. I can see what you're saying about everything you brought up.
I was tempted to double the rythm guitar in this, but wanted to keep it "3-piece" sounding. Hence, the guitar maybe sounding too "mono'placed". Your idea of adding a room mic to give it some life is great. I'm going to try that with future tracks and see if it helps. I also did go for a bass-y sound on the guitar, maybe too much.
As far as the ride. I'm a lefty, so my ride and hi-hat might always seem weird to people used to hearing it come from the other side. But, regardless of that, I have the most trouble making the ride sound like it's part of the kit. I've tried many variations in my mic placement.

Thanx again for the comments/advice.

Yeah man, the guitar sound rocks in that tune.

Rami,
I know the one guy in the front mentioned that the guitar intro is too loud for the vocals, and i'm finding it the same. Not sure if you ever adjusted it. The tones of everything sound killer. Killer guitar solo. other than the beginning, i find it very well mixed.

This the best I've heard from you in a while Ramster, and considering the quality of your stuff that's saying something. It's interesting how the distortion you use on the slide gives it dirty a lo-fi sound compared to everything else - very nice. What tuning did you use on the slide? Some great riffs in here too, very Zeppelinesqu. I'm loving this tune

Hey Rami, yeah that tone in the intro is sweet. Nicely done. The slide work is some nasty blues, love it. Chorus sounds good, both the slide and vocals are distinguisable. The little clean break sounds great too, mixed very well, sounds like a dramatic western scene or so. Anyway, nothing to add to the mix from above, just that I dig the songwriting and structure, pretty sweet

Hey Jason....I haven't re-mixed the song yet, so you're hearing the original posting. I will bring that guitar down in the intro, you guys are right. Thanx alot for the comments on the mix.

Thanx alot, Bull! I used regular tuning for the slide. I know there are other tunings for slide, like an open tuning, but I started screwing around with the riff on my guitar while it was tuned normally, so I just learned the part like that.

Just did a complete re-mix of this, thought I'd bump it up. I'm still having trouble taming the ride cymbal in the solo...Or maybe it just seems that way to me since I'm not used to having no rythm guitar under the solo, so it's freaking me out.
