Call me nuts but I'm not usually into female vocals. But this is pretty cool stuff. I really like the singing, it has a very relaxed and non-pretentious delivery.

I'm also in the camp that is saying that the recording sounds nice the way it is. I know many people can't get past a "low-fi" recording, but I don't let it bother me as long as the song is good. I mean, it's one thing when you get these artists/bands recording in big-dollar studios and purposely making their albums sound like they were recorded on a boom-box, but it's a whole other thing when the low-fi aspect results from a true spontaneous DIY situation with limited equipment and experience. I've found a lot of times, with my own recordings and those done by friends, that when something cool is captured in a basic low-fi recording and then an attempt is made later to re-record the song more "professionally", the result just doesn't capture the vibe and character of the original. Sounds weird, but it's overwhelmingly been my experience.

Thumbs up
Matt

Fidelity is overrated. But, this is on the lo-fi side of lo-fi. That doesn't really bother me, it makes for a comforting listen and I enjoyed the song a lot. But, there surely is a middle of the road, I think, for this song between the current version and total overproduction. It's a good enough song to try to find out where that road might be. It doesn't have to be this or a Mutt Lang or Nigel Goldrich production. I probably can't help you much to discover how to get from A to B, but some of these guys here can. Did you find out from your brother yet what equipment you used to do this? Mic, Soundcard, Sequencing software, preamp if any. etc. That would be a good start.

Yea I take it there are not too many females here. Shame. Are there actually any regular female posters here?

After a few years of hanging out here, I've decided that home recording is just more of a guy thing to do. It's more akin to building a house than it is to art. It has nothing to do with musical talent...my daughter has tons more talent than I do, but she has zero interest in recording. I've tried to teach her, but she just doesn't care. Even you had your brother record this, right?

C'MON LADIES...BUY SOME PREAMPS AND START TURNING KNOBS!!!

(lol@the thought of any lady besides the OP and Nave reading this)

I dig this song and your performance of it.

Cheers man. Actually I do most of my recording myself, this one was a one-off.
My problem was that I was recording mostly on an old Tascam Portastudio, I need to figure out how to convert the tapes. I'm trying my hand at using Reaper right now too so I can actually get some more of my songs online. I love recording myself, the whole process, they way I can build on the bare bones of the tune. I love harmonising to myself too lol!

dont change the mix. sounds oldschool. fleetwood style
Thanks for that. I'm actually listening to a lot of Fleetwood Mac at the moment, doing a couple of covers with my brother too. Hope to be playing them live soon.

Thanks everyone for all your support and encouragement. I agree more chicks should record their own stuff, it's fun as all get out!

So I'm in the process of writing some new stuff to go towards an album at some stage, and to refresh the tired tunes I've been playing for too many years. This is still one I really love and I've mucked around a bit tweaking the composition but every time I hear this spur-of-the-moment recording I still like it the best. Sure the sound is shitty, and I'm terrible on guitar, but I just wanted to put this out there again to see how it's sitting with the public after a couple of years. I know this is a recording forum, but I'm really interested to hear what you guys think of the song itself, seeing as how there are so many music lovers here.
Let me know what ya think.
