Hi,

I recently bought a lexicon u22 audio interface.
I used the instrument input on the side for recording guitar track on garageband (mac book pro 4 gb ram) with success. However when I am trying to record vocals using mic1 XLR input (gain knob 95% to right, phantom power on, Condenser Mic MXL 990), I can hardly see any effect on the waveform in the garageband track (real instrument track, input source lexicon pro u 22 mono 1, no effects). The play back is also very faint.

What am I missing. Is there incompatibility of Lexicon products with garageband, or do I need a preamp?

Please advise
Thanks
Arjun

What is happening with the LED meters on the Lexicon itself? Are you getting a good strong signal?

Very weak signal (upto 3 lights), that too when I crank up the gain to almost 100% and sing 5 inches away from the microphone.

Sounds like the input may be set to line instead of mic level,
or bad cable?

Yep, problem is in the Lexicon itself (or at least that's where the weak signal starts) Can you try a different cable or even a different mic possibly. Also you said you had phantom power on, but could be that it's not working.

I tried a new mic - AP Audio ABM-1 Mic - same issue (with phantom on)

I will get a new XLR cable from Guitar Center and try it out.

Also will get a new 9VAC Adapter to check if that helps.

Thanks

It was the stupid XLR cable (Live Wire Advantage XLR 15ft cable).
I replaced it with Monster Cable S-100 XLR and am back on track.

Thanks for all the suggesstions
