I hope I explain this thing right!!

My setup is as follows!!

Korg Triton LE going into Input 1 in an echo Layla24 Soundcard and going out through ADAT optical outs into a Roland VS-2480!!

I am using Logic Audio V5 to record!!

However the recording level I am getting of the triton in Logic is Extremely low and I cant seem to get it to record louder!!

Anotyher thing is that to monitor the triton through the Vs-2480 I have to use an analog out

Also , the ADAT outputs are MUCH lower that the analogue outputs!

Does anyone have a clue???

Cheers

I have an older 20 bit Layla - have you checked record levels in the Layla mixer applet? I'm not familiar with the Korg, but a lot of synths have really low output levels, almost as low as an un-amplified guitar. I've seen some that were at -30 dBv. You may have to use a preamp, or make sure the Layla is set up for that input to the "-10" setting, not the "+4" choice.

If the ADAT outs are low, that's a fair sign that analog levels are set too low. Hopefully the above checks will fix it for you... Steve

Just a few thoughts:

Expect the Triton out levels to be near their max (i.e. full volume)

The Layla24 settings should be pretty hot too, around 0db to +7dB.

You'll probably need to use some sort of compression in order to get the entire song that loud.

Do a search on signal chains and volume loss throughout the chain here and you should find some interesting solutions to the problems your having.

Try plugging the synth into the Roland and then into the soundcard. The VS mixer should give you a little more gain. It's not the cleanest way to do it but it should help.

Wow ..that was quick!!Sure to try these things out tonight!! Especially the -10 not the +4!! I think I could change that!

Get a Presonus Blue Tube and use them balanced lines out. Great little amp for a synth.
