I thought this sounded very cool...strong low end and crisp guitars! Vocals sound a bit buried, but maybe thats due to the part of the song the clip is from? Sounds like a interesting tune, as you mentioned , its hard to judge sonic quality of mps @ 128k bitrate, although if it sounds this good at that compression, I bet it sounds killer uncompressed/wav!
Nice job!!
Cheers Variaxman.
I bumped the vocals up a tad. Only by about 1dB but it definetly made the difference.

I was listening to it, and thought 'cool song, horrible mix'... then I realized I had accidentally clicked on lo-fi.

It sounds much better on hi-fi :p

Overall mix sounds nice. I would turn vocals up a bit, perhaps slightly more compression on them. The bass could probably lock in with the kick a bit more. The clean guitar sounds a little bit odd to me... perhaps an eq thing?

Reminds me of at the drive in or the mars volta a bit... nice work. Definitely be keen to hear the whole song. :D

Have you ever tried a 3k boost on the vocals for the P, B, T's and what not. Can't do a whole lot with out it getting harsh, but you may try playing around between 2 & 4k with a little boost.

Level on the vox sounds better.

Nice.

Sounds good to me. I can't really get into that style, but it sounds like everything is done very well and nothing jumps out as being out of place. No nits from me. Good job. :)

i really like the guitars on this. However, in my opinion i would indeed make them a bit wider rather then in the center. I think it would make them stand out more and make more of an impression. Personally i really dont like the vocal, the voice just irks me for some reason, if however, you do like this sort of thing, i would agree on upping the vox to make it stand out with the guitar a bit more.

Everything else sounds on point. I would also make the overall mix a bit brighter, all for that stand out effect. The more people notice the track, the more play it will get.

Cheers

Yeah there is a good 3K boost. I really like 3K boost on vocals. PLayed about with all the frequnecies on the vox really. Boosting 4, 5, 12+ cutting the lo mids etc. I had to automate our some Ps and Ts from boosting the 3K so best to keep it at that level.

Do you have any tips on getting wider guitars?
I have 2 guitars in the band. For the clean sections (1st link sample at start of thread) the guitars have been copy and pasted and nudged and panned fully. Ive played about with different phasing for the copied tracks.

For the distorted guitar (2nd link about half way down 1st page of this thread) I double tracked and panned full.

Any tips would be very welcome.

Eck
