I never said anything about my approach to my Rumble solo, so thought I would... Backing track was in F minor and major. I capo’d at the first fret and played in E, so my discussion here is in that same key. As I was working it out I jotted down a rough sketch of my ideas as they were occurring to me, so I’ve included that below. The solo's here if you want to hear it.

In measures 1-6 I just outlined an E minor arpeggio, adding some chromatic “flicks” for variety, then an E melodic minor scale to intensify the run up to a high point at the end of the passage.

Measures 6-9 started with G major triad arpeggio tones ornamented in a similar way, then a simple chord-based tremolo at the end to get more aggressive with the volume and range to try to draw attention away from the keyboard part.

Measures 10-13 were just arpeggio tones again, keeping the motivic use of the chromatic “flicks” to add artificial complexity (ha), then a slurred G major scale descending in triplet 16ths to end the phrase with more rhythmic intensity.

Measures 14-17 are a recap of bars 2-5.

Then a measure of transition to E major where I just stumbled around with ascending arpeggios and tried to land somewhere that wouldn’t be too awkward to escape from.

In measures 19-26 I paraphrased another piece, El Colibri, using repeated notes on chord tones in the key of E major (though Colibri’s in E minor), sliding from one to another and adding a few of the same chromatic quick flicks to give the illusion that my ideas were somehow stylistically unified throughout.

Did 4 takes and used parts of each in the editing. Arranging took about an hour, same for tracking/editing.

Mother's Day kept me occupied. I'll be working on it this week.

One more day for me. I hope no one has anything in their mouth that could really mess up their keyboards when I do post it! :o

Plenty o' time. I haven't gotten in on it yet and it's my thread

Nice. I've got some ideas that are gonna ROCK YOUR FUCKING SOCKS OFF!!

Alright, here we go. Hang on to something. I titled this piece "Suck My Rock".
http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=4363&alid=-1

Phase 1 of this musical masterpiece begins with a technique known in some circles as a "pick slide". For this piece, I chose a brand new Dunlop Gator Grip .96mm pick, knowing that the grainy cocaine-like residue texture would certainly add to the emotional feel.

Phase 2 employs a technique in which I perfectly articulate every note in a chromaticdiminishedmixodoriaphrygianflatted mode. Not done very often, and I'm quite certain that I will be scoring some points here. If you're not crying or slitting your wrists from the pure beauty that has been utilized here, we will move onward.

Phase 3 consists of some double stopped 4ths in a matter that might be reminiscent of some classic rock songs; however, I've got better effects. So, fuck 'em.

Phase 4 is a heart-wrenching rapid fire pickup-selector process. I lit my right hand on fire in order to achieve something special. DO NOT try this at home. I am an experienced guitarist and I don't want anybody hurt.

Phase 5 is a reprise of phase 2. Often times I am told, "I wish I could listen to your soloing forever." This is as close as you can get.

Phase 6 is composed of another wailing doom pickslide technique that is intended to leave the listener completely spent, yet gasping for more.

And there you have it. What do I win?

Ooohhh, I'm sorry--that was a brilliant solo, but we aren't accepting any World/Folk entries :D

Holy crap. I didn't even know that much reverb was possible. I think you should win solely for the fact that you laid more reverb down that anyone in history.

OK Purge... yeah, yeah, yeah... mock me if you will but at least use "chromaticdiminishedmixodoriaphrygianflatted" correctly.

Can you believe that's actually a preset in my GT-6? Who in their right friggin' mind would actually use that?

No mocking intended whatsoever! I guess now that you mention it, it was probably "sharped" not "flatted". Crap, now I'm going to lose.

Hey thanks!! Just trying to give something back to music, ya know? Most people do this for the chicks or the cash, but I'd like to think that I'm just in it for the hero worship.
