Can't load the CD (in WAV format) to the DPS. I feel like selling this thing and getting a PC based system now!

Oh well, you guys aren't missing anything anyway.

What format do you have to use to import audio?

BTW, dogman.........cute little com-puter

Well, if all else fails, just run an audio stereo line out from your internet box and into the Akai. Or even just do it the lo-fi way and put a mic from the Akai up to your computer speaker! That might end up sounding funky and cool. Something'll work, so do a solo.

Ok, an intimate look into the workings of the dogz studio.....

Thanks Dogman. Efficient and obviously functional set-up.

But now I'm curious about what's being hidden in the shelf to the right.
Ha!

Well, since the room is hard to get a good perspective of, What you see is my way cool, over/under engineered vocal booth. Behind it is a bookcase containing many nifty items, such as old toys, old Guitar For The Practicing Musician mags, and some nicknacks. The vocal booth became a monstrosity all on it's own, but works, and since my wife helped with it, I guess I can keep it. For now. I probably own about $900 in new recording equipement, plus my plethora of old instruments. Very sparse, but if I can stay focused, and interested, I will upgrade some things after we sell some rental property. That will be fun. Spending more money.

Somehow, get a solo up. It's all for fun, and after doing one, the next will be no big deal. Someone with some chops might even be able to give you some pointers. (That would not be me. My chops consist of meat, not guitar. )

Thanks, Travis. Did you like the vocal booth? It's damn sweet also. :D

That's the biggest question I've been trying to answer. The manual is no big help. Seems like I can only "reload" backed up data from a CDRW and nothing else.

Might need to do it the low fi way as suggested by Mr. Lawler. Again, no big deal since my playing sucks bad.

Dogman, if I ever get to post what I've got, I doubt if anyone will volunteer to give me some pointers. They wouldn't know where to start. :D

Will have to do this tomorrow since I am getting late for the Doobie Bros concert.

Thanks for the help and encouragement guys!

when you back up audio from onto cd from the akai, what format is the audio in? what bit/sample rate?

Ok, Travis. I went to your Soundclick page, and you've got some good sounding stuff there. Very entertaining as well. Cool.
Ed

thank you very much dogman......eventually I'll get this recording stuff down a bit and start churning out some real music instead of test clips.

I like your vocals. Wanna tell me how you record them? Mic, pre, any technics you've learned?
Ed

ha, ha.............I'm glad someone likes em. any vocals on that page were done with a MXL 990, up pretty close, like 6" with a pop filter of course, into an audiobuddy with alot of gain. i just tryed to contain my demons a bit so as not to clip the pre. i never really got the results i was looking for with the 990 but now i'm thinking that i just did'nt experiment with it enough. thanks for the comments.

Sage, wheres that solo man?

Thanks Travis. Did you do much as far as editing the vocals? Any effects, and such? I use an AT 4040, and and Audio buddy, and just don't have it dialed in yet.
Ed

i think i just used some noise reduction and a bit of reverb in in cool edit. if i did use reverb, it was'nt much at all. same with the acoustic guitars. my apartment is noisy as hell.

Travis,

Now I really am hesitant to post because I know you'll be greatly dissapointed.

I found the addendum to my DPS manual and discovered that you can load a wav file into the machine but it seems like this can only be done if the source was DOS formatted. Aside from being a guitar newb, I am also tech challenged and not sure what DOs format means.

Anyway, I've tried several times and have been unable to load the wav file from my CD/RW. I'm guessing this is not DOS formatted?

Will try the lo-fi way here in a few minutes.

I don't think anyone here will be dissapointed with whatever you play. It's all in fun and it's interesting to hear others twists on the same back track. Sorry, I don't know about the DOS format thing.
