You should not be controlling output to your monitors with software of any kind. As you digitally decrease volume, you are reducing the signal's bit resolution, and then reamplifying a crippled signal. Not a great way to do it.

You should always leave your inputs and outputs at 100%. Control these levels with your analog equipment.

This is one that I just noticed a thread in the n-Track forum a few minutes ago. I never realized this but it makes a lot of sense. It may also explain why I'm having a tough time getting a mixdown I'm really happy with. I've been lazily using the Windows mixer to control output volume since controlling volume on my monitors means adjusting TWO volume controls, not to mention having to actually reach for them!

Here's one that comes up a lot in the cakewalk forum, but it's soundcard related. " I get an error message in sonar saying one or more soundcards do not support stereo" You know, the old SBLive/ Sonar/ KXproject/ Rollback to MS driver scenario.

USB vs. IDE

I didn't read through this whole thread, but I think this is a valid topic.

Ok guys, good topics and links so far. The link to the sos BBS though I'm not sure about...Dragon might see that as competition.

Speaking of Dragon, I contacted him about maybe giving me some space for these FAQ's so they don't have to exist as threads. We'll see.

...umh, sorry Slack, I forgot that :D However, the web page layout will be good for references. The way they pack the infos is cool IMHO. ;)

That's cool... anyway... where's Dragon all these times ? I sent him PM & email him so many many times, but he didn't even read it ? (...well, at least that's what it shows in the PM usercp...). He shouldn't be that bussy... hmmmm

Hi... nope im not to much of a newbie to posta suggestion :)

expanding on the Soundcard question, i think we should not only include price range but some functions and catagories too... EG.

Expandability - like the motu extra
Firewire
PCI
Mac
Pc
Adat and dat support
etc etc

these could be even sorted into preice ranges like:

most expandable card under $300

most expandable card under $900

etc etc

i can help if you want? tho i havent had experience with very card, i have researched alot of them... just a thought...

Just a quick update. I heard back from dragon and it looks like it's a go on getting some space for the FAQ's!
