If you're recording a music video, please make sure your singers sing into the SIDE of side-address condensers, NOT the END!

That is all.

That's pretty funny. I always see that in magazine pictures and laugh.

Oh my God!

I see this kind of crap all the time on Disney Channel videos that my daughter watches! It's just friggin' embarrassing to see these teenage wannabees singing into the TOP of a U47!!!!!!

They just don't have a CLUE!

What we're all failing to realize is that it doesn't matter to them. They want to look cool, not be smart. I'll bet any person who posed or acted singing to the top of a side-address mic could care less if they were wrong, so long as they got paid and were cool. The director is really to blame, anyway.

Still, it's really sad.

Now I know why all my recordings sound so bad!

REP!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to dgatwood again.

Yup. You probably saw the same video I did. Anna Sophia somebody.... I think it must have been a long body U47 or something because it looked like it was almost as long as my lower arm and fist put together. Maybe it just looked bigger relative to the girl. Hard to say.

I really felt bad for the girl, since she was too young to know any better.... The mic placement was the very first thing I noticed when I saw that video. I looked up about that time, and a second or two later, I'm on the floor laughing. Really wrecked the mood of what was otherwise a pretty good track by Disney standards---no continuous Auto-Tune artifacts, no whiny, grating voice... if Disney doesn't totally ruin her, the kid might actually have potential. Too bad their video producer doesn't. :)

Anyway, you'd think the producer would have clued her in. As far as I'm concerned, if you're a studio with a U47, you darn well should be smart enough to how to use it. If you aren't, you don't deserve to have a U47. :D

No, what's sad is there's some dumbass that should know what they're doing and set the thing up right for the kids.

On the flip side I chuckle when I see a MD421 used as a side address.
Granted it does look like it should be.

My Gosh!
This means that Disney Channels has money (and microphones) to waste!
Why don't they use a Shure SM58? It doesn't matter if someone drop it!

Bye from Michele (Italy)

This kinda reminds me of an Alterbridge music video in which the singer i singing (correctly) into an MXL 990. LOL proof that the mic is AWESOME! If I remember correctly, the mic was dented and beat to shit! Seeing Kennedy (singer) sing into it and hearing the studio recording make it even more......surreal.

BTW, if you're not familiar with Alterbridge (A.B.), you should definately check them out. Alterbridge is essentially the original Creed lineup sans Scott Stapp.

The band is kinda "under the radar" right now, but Mark Tremonti is one of my favorite guitarists!

Oh yeah, the song is Broken Wings.....you can see the video here.
