So I have this great sounding Leslie costume made by Lord Valve at NBS Electronics (this guys a guru on this stuff, Denver) say Clock sent you… anyway so I’ve played this thing out a lot in the past when I didn’t really have a day job. Now it’s sitting in my basement and just waiting to be fired up. One thing that I realized while playing out is this thing sounds great when it is cranked up a little. So how do I record this thing without disturbing my neighbor in the next townhouse over. I’ve been thinking of building a box that would enclose it giving it a 6-12” space all around (I would like to make it as small as possible without completely destroying the sound). Then I would carpet or astroturf the inside and cut a few holes, one on the top and one on the bottom, to mic the top and bottom rotors. The dimensions of the Leslie are 28”W x 20”L x 41”H. So do you think this will work ok? Are there any formulas I should consider for the dimensions? What kind of carpet should I use (I was maybe thinking of a berber type as to not totally kill reflections)? Will the box itself create some kind of giant bass resonator? If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!
