Hi :)

I went to my local guitar shop about 30minutes ago and tried out the epiphone les paul, and wow its just amazing lol may be getting it

it felt awesome, so it must have been set up really well

I was just wondering do you think the guitar shop owner will have set it up himself, or hel be selling it how the factory sent it to him?

because its a lot cheaper on the internet so was gonna get it on there, but just wondering if it will be set up like the ones in guitar shops lol

:D

Tough to say, they may have already set up that particular guitar in the store. I wouldn't count on a mail-order guitar to already come in set up.

Alot of stores will sell you a guitar with a free set up somewhere down the road. The idea being that you play it for a while then bring it in for the setup and let them know what you would like. lower action, maybe there is some buzzing you hadn't notcied at first, maybe you want a different gauge string than they sold it with (which requires a new intonation). if you get this deal, it is a good idea, if they are good, you can tell tem what you like.don;t like about it a month or two down the raod and they can set it up to your specs and reccomend strings to go with it that will suit you too.

if you like the feel of hte guitar at the shop, that might and a free set up (if they offer that) might be worth saving hte money on the online buy. Every guitar is different, even the same model by the same manufacturer, so the one you get from the online buy might not feel the same.
I personally prefer to spend money locally when possible. if the cost of a setup + the cost of the online guitar (including shipping of course) is less than the cost of the local store bought guitar it might be worth getting online too.

If it's a small shop where they also do setups and repairs they'll usually make any necessary adjustments if the factory setup is off.

Sometimes a guitar will be set up fine at the factory but handling and temperature change can throw it out of adjustment by the time it gets to the dealer.

you should buy the one you played you like the feel of it, you like the way its set up, and you wont have to wait for it to get shipped to you......and its always good to spend your money at your local music store... to help ensure that they will be there when you need something......

lol id just feel bit rude doing that because i went to his shop and he spent liek 20mins letting me try out the guitar and he was just watching me going on about how i have 'natural musicality' and how 'its good to see someone come into his shop that actually plays it properly' lolmaybe wud be better getting from him i dunno cos i got guarantee etc, and kinda hard 2 get support from an online place

Which Les Paul model are you looking at?
How much more do they want verses an online store?

There is a big difference from guitar to guitar with these things.

I tried them out for a year and a half before buying one.
I wanted a cherryburst Standard, but ended up buying a 56 gold top because I found one that was twice as heavy as any epi I held in the entire time I was looking.

My point is if you find one that you think is that good.........work your best deal and buy it.

It may be a long time before you run across another that nice again!
And if you buy it online, who knows what you will get.

I've bought 4 guitars on the internet - all from power sellers on E-Bay all with 99%+ positive feedback. The savings are so huge from online sellers because the physical store owners have to include big mark ups to cover all of the various costs; employees, premises rent, light, heat, insurance, transport, taxes etc and that's before they even consider their own profit margins (which have to be worthwhile after paying the bills).
So if you get a guitar on the interne that needs a set-up, just bring it to the local guitar tech or music store and get it done for 20 bucks... the cost of a set up is still way lower than the savings you make buying online. Just make sure you buy a guitar from a trusted power seller that specialises in guitars and ask la lot of questions before buying. My 2 cents.

Flatter the customer. Salesmanship 101.

its the epiphone les paul standard it was a kinda dark blueish colour

To each their own. I mean that and with "that" said, I could never buy an instrument guitar of any kind over the internet, sight unseen and not tried out. I've bought a couple "collectables" that way but never intended to buy them for playing.

When I went shopping for my last LP, I tried damn near everyone in the store and every one felt different and had slightly different fit or finish qualities about them. I'm talking dozens. I took a couple home before I settled. For that reason alone, I couldn't buy one without playing it first.

Maybe I'm a little more finicky than most but the way I look at it, I buy them for keeps and I'm willing to pay real good money for a real good guitar that I plan to play and look back for years to come without remorse or regret. An intimate relationship of sorts.

I'm just weird like that.

If it feels that good to you, then buy it. Even if its more $$$ than on the net. You will regret it if you just get one off the net.

I know everyone has different financial situations, but really, when dealing the cost of any modern Epiphone, even an ever priced one is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.

Also about the guitar shop in general....

If you find a guitar shop that treats you well and you honestly don't get the feeling you are being underminded, belittled, or screwed...and the products are quality....buy from them and give them repeat business in the future. So many guitar shops are now run by morons and assholes that the few good ones need support.

The internet is nice for stuff they don't normal sell, but for the guitar, its nice to try before you buy. Besides, aside from gun shops and bait shops, there are very few places that offer that old time atmosphere of "customer service"...you know where you walk in and they don't care if you don't buy something because they know you have in the past, and when the time is right, you will in the future.
