One other thing to note is the studios don't have a maple cap. The Maple cap makes the higher end LP's have a brighter tone. Personally, I prefer a Studio to the other models.

You are wrong on that.

Just where the hell do you think the sound comes from?

This ain't no dog and pony show. Guitars are what I care about.

When you guys say that the Les Paul tuners suck, what exactly do you mean? They don't stay in tune well unless you replace them?

Please have patience with my ignorance. I've played for 20 years, but never had much money to buy equipment.

I hear ya spin! Ive never had a prob w/ my LP tuners..... As a matter of fact... 75% of the time when people come into the shop complaining about their tuners not working/holding, there is a problem with the way they are stringing their guitars... too many/few wraps.

There are alot of tuners that come on budget imports that just wont ever hold... and I accept that, but before ya swap out your tuners because you heard that they werent good..... make sure youre stringing them properly. And if ya cant figure it out.... go ask someone at your local shop to show you how to put one string on(if they arent too busy and you are buying strings there!).

The problems I encountered on my '94 Studio were that on the low E and A strings, I guess due to the tension, there came a point where the backs of the Kluson-type tuners would just pop off.

It first occurred with the low E string. I called Gibson, and told them what was going on, and they sent me a new tuner free of charge.

When it happened with the A string a few months later, same thing. I called Gibson, told them what was going on, and they sent me a new tuner free of charge.

The new tuners they sent had the backs permanently attached somehow (or so I was told). They were still Kluson-type, but the backs were deeper (or thicker).

Those are the only issues I had with the stock tuners. That guitar was my main guitar in the same band for 3 1/2 years, and it never once went out of tune during show.

I've got an early 90's Wine-Red LP Studio and it's just astoundingly good, as well as astoundingly heavy!

I just thought the difference between studios besides some wood and pickups the main thing is the white binding around the guitar. On some of the very high end gibsons the binding is said to be triple thick, or something.
