Oh nice dodge, friend. How much is Greg paying you? I know damn well it is an official Gibson color (and I also know the history of it's origin thank you very much) but it was never - I'm getting bold now when I repeat never - issued officially on any "regular" Les Paul; Model, Standard, Custom, whatever - other than the Les Paul Junior. It also showed up on Melody Makers I believe.

(This is mostly tongue in cheek obviously but I'm not 100% sure - let's say 99.4% - and I'd love to find out otherwise. Plus a little troll-deflection never hurts. Be a shame when this whole thread gets wiped but what the hell...

Sorry, not with you then what were you asking?

this is by no means sound advice, but i believe there was an old mythical way of removing the finish of a guitar by pouring flammable liquid and setting it on fire as an offering. =)

You need to bath it in talc first.

I have heard of a heat gun technique. BTW, can you please be specific about your claim about what I was wrong about? Was it the powder?

Can you be specific about what claim you have ever been right about. That would be easier and quicker.

Have you been spraying nitro without a mask?

I just stuff my nose full of talc. It filters out all the nasty smells and magically makes them disappear. It also helps the nitro stay in tune and lasts longer. You can't say I'm wrong because it is my opinion and experience.

It goes back to Greg's list of "best" LP finishes. (You were butthurt about his exclusion of Muttburst and then again by his ranking of it - lol. He put "TV Yellow" way up at the top of the list behind Goldtop and I maintain that TV Yellow is not a proper color for a Les Paul (Juniors excepted). Capice?

1. The gold coat on my Les Paul 12 string was not nitro. It could not have been.
2. Body powder on fretboards is not dangerous in the least bit. It is very soothing and aids in the playability of guitars.

That someone would be me, all week long. Whether you like the finish or not you can not state that it was not well done. The only thing you seem to have gotten right is the spelling of my last name, they always get it wrong.

I didn't say anything about your work. I said that I think it's a crime against nature to ruin a Gold Top.

The rest of this attention-whoring trolling lunacy is all you.

You said more than that, don't try to back-peddle.

Ah right, I see. With you now. There are quite a few examples from the time I believe. All I know is that originally they were supposed to be a solid colour but the process let the grain bleed through eventually. That was the look that caught on and the one they later tried to capture. It's a pig to match..

Hey Mutt - is TV Yellow a proper Les Paul finish color (excluding Juniors - everybody knows it was number one or two on those)?

Greg and I have big money riding on this.

To be fair, I've never seen a "regular" LP finished in TV Yellow. I've seen the Jrs though, and that counts for my list of best finishes.
