Lend me your ears... How is this mix?

Well, I boosted the snare the the +18 around 3500hz and it sounds a bit more crisp to me. Also I was boosting the highs on the cymbals which I think was causing the too much sizzle since I do an overall high end boost at the end of the mix and cymbals already dominate the high range... I've uploaded another one here...

New Song Again

I'm not sure about the reverb... The only things with reverb are the snare and the drums have the room mic track on them.

When you guys say the snare is boxy, what exactly does that mean, like your hitting a box... I'm just trying to get a mental picture and sound of it so I can try to undo it. To me, right now the snare sounds pretty dang crisp since I did that extreme boost... Anyway, let me know, I really want these mixes to be the shizzznit...

Also, sorry I havn't been contributing much to other peoples project like I used to... I've just been spending so much time mixing and have alot on the plate and I'm in a hotel on the road for work to top it off.... I just need to get my sound down.

I think you might want to see what happens if you cut a bit around 200-400hz. It's not really bad. Like I said, it might just be a preference thing. And it might seem like more of an issue than it really is only because 2 of us happen to agree on it.

Personally, I didn't notice anything wrong with the cymbals in the mix I heard.

Maybe the kspacey keyboard sounds have reverb or decay on them that makes them sound spacey, which I misinterpreted as reverb.

Not really, like I said above, it might just lack a bit of that snap or bite, and maybe too much low mids...But again, I have to repeat, it might not be worth pulling your hair out over. It could just be the choice of sound doesn't yank my chain, it doesn't sound "BAD".

Don't worry man...I know how it is. I find it hard to rip myself away from my own projects sometimes.

I'll try cutting out more of the 400hz range to see what it does... I know that seems to be a sore spot for most drums... I forgot about that, thanks...

I actually thought maybe the cymbals were too much on the highs after the overall boost I put on the highs at the end of the mix coupled with the boost I was putting in the Overheads EQ... It wasn't a huge boost, just a couple dbs in the upper high range...

Yea, I guess in the end everything is personal preferance, well sometimes actually things just sound bad which doesn't seem to be the case here...

Alright... I think I nailed it on this one here... Really did some work on the snare and the cymbals...

New Song Yet Again

The links are actually all the same, I keep putting it in my posts for ease of use...

CYmbals and hats sound good ,snare sounds better. A bit snappier and a bit less boxy.

I went back and boosted quite a bit around 200hz on the snare to add more bigness or body or whatever it's called to it... I also brought the snare, kick and toms up 1db so they stand out just a bit more...

New Song

Hopefully this should do it... The one thing I noticed was the snare just not sounding full enough, thats why I did that boost on 200hz, now it sounds pretty good to me.

So I went back to using the snare I always use and made some more adjustment by looking at my old mixes and trying to take what I like out of them and incorperate it into my new stuff... Here is a link...

New Song

I think this is final... So I can start writing more tunes and work on lyrics and such.
