Don't stare at the eye.
T minus 48 hours to my new Carvin Legacy.

Just sayin. :)

Cool. :D Let me know what you think - I've never cared for any of the Legacy clips I've heard, but I think that's probably because most of them are from guys playing Ibanez Jems trying to replicate Steve Vai's tone, and barring Alien Love Secrets I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of his guitar sounds.

I am a big fan of his tone--but knowing of course that you have to play like him to sound like him--it ain't gonna happen with me! :D I don't even play a Jem (though I do use his pickups in the bridge position in two of my guits).

I actually bought it more for what I heard others doing with it. I've got lots of old school bluesy breakup sounds, and some nice scooped grindage--I'm looking for a real articulate lead machine.

I'll know soon enough. And I'll post some clips.

The specs on their website are pretty close to my Marshall JCM900. I expect it will have a ballsy clean channel and a dynamite OD channel. I'm pretty sure it will rock!!!

...so, T-24... ;)

Actually, T-any frikkin' minute now! I just so happen to be working from home today too--imagine the coincidence! We've got nasty weather heading in, and I'm way off the beaten path--so I hope the UPS driver beats the snow storm.

If he does, I'll report back as soon as I can! :D

"Old 2 Hours Ago "

...?

UPS, UPS, wherefore art thou?

No snow here yet--so I'm confident I'll get it today. It's just after 3 here, and residential deliveries can go as late as 6.

Yes...I'm I little kid waiting for a toy.

I'm actually pretty excited to (hopefully) hear some clips.

Keep us updated :D

The eagle has landed!

I'm gonna stop playing it long enough to share some initial impressions.

1) It's loud. Really loud. This is the first time I've had an amp this big without a master volume. Given that the sweet spot allegedly starts somewhere around 4, this baby needs to crank in order to sing. :D

My son was out hunting when it came, and he knew it was here. In fact he thought I was playing on the deck to scare the deer off. Nope. I was in the house--on about 3 with the drive at 5.

2) It's dark. It can certainly be brightened up, but compared to my other amps, it's dark. And thick and full. I'm gonna love this.

3) I bought it for the gain/lead channel, but all the reviews I read are right: the clean channel is sweet. Very warm and responsive. The attack (on both channels in fact) is killer.

4) Very articulate (the attack, again) with great sustain. My initial noodling was only with the gain at about 5, and it's as fluid as other amps with much more gain--but obviously more articulate since there's less added distortion.

"So where are the clips?" you ask? It's not even in the studio yet. I've got it in the family room set up with a guit to show it off to my honey when she gets in. I'll take it down tonight and maybe have time to place some mics and record some riffs.

Stay tuned...

Kickass. :D

Something tells me you're going to want a THD Hot Plate or a Weber Mass. :p

I've got a Weber Mass (a couple actually). The 100w version has been doing duty on my B-52 tube combo. The B-52's got a master volume though, so until I get another Weber, it's a no-brainer. I moved it to the Legacy last night.

And the "dark" comment I made was a bit hasty. I had only played it on the floor in my living room--while my others are on angled stands in a brighter room; so that was a bad comparison for such a subjective description.

After putting it on it's angled stand in the studio, it seemed much more balanced. Still darker than my other flavors, but not nearly so much as my initial impression.

As it got late last night, I didn't crank it and play much, but so far, I'm very impressed. No buyer's remorse here. Can't wait to track with it. Myabe tonight? :)

Please do. Pretty please record something that DOESN'T sound like Vai, unlike 99% of the clips I'd heard over at Jemsite. :p

I'm pretty sure whatever I record will sound more like me than he. :D

Seriously, he's probably my favorite guitarist, but I was playing for 20 years before I even heard him--and my own "signature style" (good, bad or indifferent) is firmly ensconced. As much as I listen to guys I admire, and try to incorporate little bits from them, it's still me.
