Lefty Strat differences

Yeah... Its a frickin' guitar that hasn't changed in 50 some years. It can't be a big deal to most people. I honestly have never heard of the pickup selector switch getting in the way. Never has it bothered me.

i found i was letting my strumming hand get too high when i got my squire tele - one of the ones with the pickup selector "near the neck at the top" if that makes any sense - near the strap button. for a few days i kept on catching it and flicking to pickup positions where the volume was turned down and things, but i changed that habit without even really trying - i just stopped letting my strumming hand get too high  :p ... if that's any help...

Andy.

I have a Sunburst Strat (74') that was owned by a lefty and he had converted it to work for him, so yes the nut will need replaced. I think the whammy bar would be a problem with being hard to access when you needed it...to each their own though. ;)

SRV had a left -handed whammy bar and bridge installed on one of his guitars for some reason; the bar hung down across the strings when he was using it.

Several people have actually mentioned this problem. I used to have a strat clone (Fresher Straighter, buddy!), and I often hit the switch while strumming.

I'm pretty sure in my case it was just sloppy strumming, but it's still obnoxious even if it is your own fault.

I've been playing strats for quite a while now and I still occasionally bump the pickup selector switch and volume knob. You'll get a handle on it after a while but it will probably still happen sometimes. If it really bothers you, you could use a toggle switch or two.
