Leaving monitor speakers on

Does anyone know...How unsafe is it to leave monitor speakers on for say half a day (ie M-Audio BX5's)? Also, how bad is it to leave a soundcard like a Presonus Firebox on for half a day?

It's all good man. Infact, electronic equipment screw up faster if you play around with its power cycle. Just like if you constantly turn on and off your light bulb, you will most likely blow the fuse on it faster than if you left it on without any interruptions.
 
But leaving it turned off when not in use seems more conservative than leaving it on unused (as in "for a week")....
Not to mention, I have to pay the power bill.
 
Yea...leaving them on unnecessarily is a waste of money and also you're shortening the life of your equipment.
 
Thanks for the tips. Apart from when I do recording, I like to leave my PC on during the afternoon so that I can play music through my monitor speakers. Other times I know I will be coming back to the computer in a couple of hours or something, so I leave things on from time to time.

Sounds like everything should be alright.

My computer at work will get turned off on a Friday afternoon and then turned back on Monday morning. I turn my monitor off each nite!
 
I leave my pc, monitors, screens, etc. on 24/7. Most of the stuff has some form of 'slumber mode', so they power down to varying degrees from time to time. I don't know whether this is good practice or not. However, I have a dislike for interfering with things that are working, and perhaps an irrational fear of not returning to that state on resumption after switching off.

I feel you on that one, My computers and screens are NEVER turned off, they run 24/7
 
You guys are thinking about it too much... just turn them off when you feel like it or when you think about it :D

But, really, leaving stuff on isn't going to harm anything. Computers start to bog down after being up for a long period, so I turn mine off every night, but thats it. Otherwise everything else stays powered up (mixer, audio interface)
 
Yeah, my work PC's basically run all day, as do all computers in work environments I suppose. I just tend to get a bit edgy leaving my flash set up at home on for too long.

I've read threads on other forums called "What's the longest you've left your PC on?"...some people say things like 5 months which really amazed me.

Anyhoo...
 
i turn mine on from about 4 to about 10 every day, and i have bx8s

I have a PC that has been on for about a year. The only time I've powered down is just to restart after an upgrade or a crash. This is a pc I only use for web browsing, and other very basic applications.

The G4 I use in my studio is only turned on when I'm working and turned off when I'm finished working.
