Leaving microphones plugged into interface

Often I will leave my recording interface on while I'm away from the computer or out for a period of time, and sometimes over night. I'm confident this isn't an issue, unless of course there is a storm outside - in this case I would turn it off to avoid a possible surge.

My question is whether or not it is a big deal if my microphones remain plugged into my interface while not in use. Often what I will do if i'm away from the interface or not using it, I will turn the gain all the way down on the channels with microphones plugged in. If i have microphones plugged into my first two inputs, which correspond to the front instrument inputs as well (m-audio profire 2626) I will toggle the front intrument panels which have nothing plugged in, to active.

thanks,

Joe

If the mic is a P.O.S. (cheap mic), then it's fine. However for decent condensers, you'd be better off putting them away in their case to keep them safe from things like moisture, heat and dust.

If this is your biggest problem in recording your own music, then I am very jelous... :)

I leave things turned on and plugged in. Normally its only my sm57 thats left live, as they are built like tanks. Anything that requires phantom or any condensors I would stick in a box.

Just cover them in a simi-loose fitting plastic bag. (You want to keep dust away but not so tight moisture is trapped.

I NEVER turn off my PC or interface. I leave it on 24/7 with all the mics and DI stuff and everything plugged in. I never even touch any levels or anything, never have any problems.
