leave mics up overnight - few days even?

In a pro setting, I can see putting everything away after a session. It IS the best way to be organized and not "lose" any equipment, either...not to mention the care the equipment receives. For home recording, and lower budget stuff, I say leave it up...especially if the studio is for yourself. Now...if you've got a $1000 mic, I'd probably put it up, but the cost of a $200 condensor isn't really that much, comparitively...and I find you're more likely to use it if it is kept out. In this thought, my guitars never see there cases, unless they travel.

well, whats the point?

it's only going to take you, what , 10 minutes to pack the mics away? do it and then no unexpected thigns will happen.

well in my case, getting the drums to sound good takes a good hour or 2, and i can't remix once they are recorded to my comp. the 4 mics mix down to one track by the time its on the comp...lol

sorry shackrock, i didn't understand your post?

it only takes 10 minutes to pack mics away, keep them somewhere with a good temperature.

i meant that it isn't the 10 min packing that is a hassle...its the 1-2 hour setting up and EQing and level getting of the drum set that is. so once i get it where i like it, i like to leave it up till i'm done with everything.

doesn't this make all the drum tracks sound the same for each song? unless you want them all to sound the same. i pack everything down after each session, on a new song, i will position everything fom scratch.

guess everyone has their way of working.

microphones should be left up only in a dust and humidity controlled environment.
Tube mics can be left up - if turned on.

if your in a basement or a cold place make sure you have a dehumiditfier. I ussually leave all of my stuff set up when im recording until i finish that song, then i take it all down put it away and take it out again.
