I use Sonic Foundry, Acid for my recording projects. I am trying to record line-in over a drum track. The problem is that the drum track is audible in my record take. This keeps me from recording multiple instruments.

Please comment.

I'll comment. You are doing something wrong. Either expecting professional results out of a less-then-professional sound card or you have a mixer that leaks channel to channel. Or you have the Aux/Effect sends set wrong. Or, if none of these happens to be the case, maybe you could provide some additional info to help us get a grip on your problem - computer specs, audio/midi interface, brand and model of mixer, y'know --- just the basics.

Some Specs

Mixer: Behringer MX602A
Soundcard: Audigy ZS Soundblaster

I have tried with and without the mixer. The Aux/Effect sends could be set wrong, I wouldn't know.

Previously, my setup worked with no such difficulties. Until I had to install a new hard drive, and reinstall the software.

How bad is the leakage? If it's very low level it could be the soundcard having analog crosstalk. But since you haven't always had the problem, my guess is you have the signal routed somewhere you don't know about and it's somehow getting bussed back onto your record-enabled track. Also check if it's coming from your headphones back into the mic.

If it happens without the mixer hooked up you should go into the Windows mixer, or the SoundBlaster's mixer applet, and make sure that ONLY the line input is selected as your recording source, SB's usually default to using "what you hear" as the recording source, this means that ALL sounds coming out of the speakers will get recorded, while this is good for the clueless to record their CD's to mp3's, it doesn't work for multi-track recording.

:)

Thanks

Great! I entered the Sound Blaster menu, and replaced "What You Hear" with "Line 2/Mic 2," the input I'm currently using. No leakage between tracks anymore. Thanks for the help.

Cool, If the problem returns after hooking up the mixer again, look at your mixer connections/routing to fix it.
