hey guys, so i just purchased a focusrite scarlett 2i2 interface to start tracking some electric guitar. i am having problems with latency. in pro tools 10 i went to my playback engine to change the H/W buffer size and its only giving me 2 options 512 samples and 1024 samples. i want to use 128 if possible but im not sure how to get to that. i am using windows 7.

the scarlett 2i2 has a direct monitor switch that is suppose to remove latency but its not working too well. also when i cut on "minimize additional i/o latency" and set my delay compensation engine to short i get a bunch of strange noises.

is my computer not good fast enough to run these settings? if so what do i need to purchase to fix this

Direct monitoring works on live audio coming into Protools.
It lets you tap in and hear the audio before it hits the computer and, therefore, without latency.

It has absolutely no effect on how audio is recorded, previously recorded audio, or playback of audio.

ok thanks. that clears that up. i am just getting into recording so im still learning a lot :D. do you know the reason my computer will not let me choose anything under 512 samples?

Your Interface should also have settings to control your buffer size. You may have to select it or something from there (your focusrite software) for it to show up in PTs.

I think PDP is right. Do you have mixcontrol software?
Apparently you have to set it to 1ms before ProTools will offer the full range.

Hi there,

Please go to Start>All Programs>Focusrite USB Control Panel>You should be able to change your buffer size in here.

Hope this helps :)

Best,

Yes, with this unit you can get zero latency, I believe. I know the bigger units come with mixcontrol, but I'm not sure about these smaller units. i believe they do. download it on their website. Look at a youtube tutorial on how to use it. You will record at no latency, if there is any, it won't be noticeable.

With the saffire pro 40, I keep at 128. And I can record with that form the DAW and be fine, but I still prefer to go through the focusrite mixer.
