Ok so i used to have a Stanton SK-four mixer and would record some scratch sessions using adobe audition...i would get a beat and just record over that beat....everything sounded in time and everything...well i bought a new Vestax pmc 05III mixer and did the same and what will happen is when im in the process of recording everything sounds perfectly in time and everything, but when i play it back it sounds off beat....i guess this is a latency issue? is it possible for two dj battle mixers to produce two different latency's, or better yet is it possible for the new vestax mixer to produce enough latency to make my scratching sound off beat? if so why is it so different?????

sounds like something has changed in your setup. What mixer you use cannot have any impact on latency since latency is a function of your soundcard driver and computer, not the source

yeah thats what i thought, but i haven't changed anything at all on my computer side...would a new sound card help?

Updating your soundcard drivers would be my first step in trying to figure it out.

If not that, find out how much time your latency is.... is it off by .274 seconds? You know, figure it out.. in Adobe, you can adjust for latency issues.

adjusting my latency in adobe was my first reaction, but i couldn't figure out how off it was seeing one that its scratching so its kinda hard to tell, and two it seems as if its fluctuating...like its on sometimes and off others....what i just don't understand is why it would all of a sudden start this...i've used cool edit and adobe for years doing the same thing the same way and its never done this....

here's wat you can try

in adobe audition go to options, at the options screen go to settings. while in settings go to multitrack and in multi track on the bottom left side you'll see "correct for drift in recordings" and "correct for start sinc in recordings". click those two and see if that helps my friend

yeah i messed around w/all that start sync and drift thing i just ended up unchecking both..then downloaded the newest driver for my soundcard....at first it made it worse but i messed around a lil bit w/a few settings and now it seems as if its timing is ok...but now if its me thats messing up i think its the computer, it has screwed my whole routine up you know cuz now ill never be able to tell if the computers messin up again or if its me...this sucks....

Have you defragmented your HD lately? It might be time to do that... If you have a lot of fragmented sectors on your drive, it might be taking up valuable space needed for your Temp files within Adobe. Adobe always seems to start actin a fool when something is wrong with the temp files.

What's your program using? ASIO? make sure it's using the right ones.

I'm not familiar with those mixers, but how are you hooking it up exactly? USB? TRS? Firewire? XLR? etc
