I noticed you had a little "Hi Ho Stereo" action going on in there.;)
Hey Kramer - Yeah. Totally stole that from cat-eggs. Steal from the best, I always say. Thanks very much for your earlier post, too. Austin's a cool town, and it's only 89 miles from here, but I figured out long ago that guys like me are a dime a dozen, at least in this part of the country - and none of us are making money playing MUSIC!! Lol...I'm stayin' put. But that was very cool of you to say. Thanks

boydrj - thanks for getting through another one.

jjcorsair... Always good to hear from you. I'm glad you stopped by. Listening on headphones, I bet,...or else you would have bitched about the timing problems...

........i've been out of town for over a week now, and this is my first listen upon return.........

great harmonies........the acoustic guits sound pretty damn good.........i really like the chorus..........it's a good song, i really don't have any good suggestions.........i saw someone mentioned drums, but i think it is fine without it, in fact, i'm having a hard time picturing a drum beat that could really 'add' to the song.........solid recording, good stuff

hat`s off to you guys on that one!! nice feel, math is right, vocals are right in there.
:)

Are you really moving to Brazil?

Yeah, thought I'd go down there, get my pubes waxed, put on a thong bikini, and kick it on the beach.

Isn't Brazil where all the ex Nazis hide out?

Chris--You are a damn fine songwriter. Old Yeller is ample evidence of that. I really enjoyed this, my friend. Sorry to take so long to respond--I'm going in a million directions these days.

Your songs work with just a voice and an acoustic guitar, which means to me that the essence of the song is good.

You say you are a dime a dozen down there in Texas, but I don't agree. I did a guest appearance at the Cactus Theater in Lubbock a few years back. They were featuring a night called "West Texas Songwriters". The only guy who blew me away was Sonny Curtis, and he's been in music since the days of Buddy Holly.

You have as much to say as any other writer who came out of Texas. I'm not trying to put stars in your eyes or tell you to quit your day job, but there is a place for your music in the world. dare to dream that much of your dream. You might be surprised what happens.

This track, for me is almost perfect.

I love the acoustics. I wish I could get mine to sound like that.

The vocals are lovely, the stereo seperation is tremendous, the lyrics are brilliant, the end chorus where you have all those countermelodies going .... Mint!!

At the risk of being repetetive ... (me not the song!) DRUMS!!!!

You HAVE to do that song with drums. Its one of those songs that I would stick on repeat in the car, but I need to get tapping on the steering wheel, whilst howling along to it!! - heh

I'm off to listen to somemore of ur stuff.

Brill- Just Brill!!

Cheers
Dee

OMG - "Say no to Autotune"

Dean Friedman on hellium - The tears are rolling down my face.

Very, very Funny indeed

Ya something like that...I like this version better. The transtion is smoother. I wonder if you should try stopping that tamborine at the same time those vox come in would be more effective, and start the vox back even just a touch further and slowly bring them forward. And after a couple bars, bring the tamb back in.

Sounds great as is. I'm just playing around with production ideas. You know me :D

WOW

Hey Crawdad - Your response got saved on my hard drive, and I printed it. Coolest Post Ever. Thanks

KRAMER - Yeah, I wasn't gonna' say anything...but...WOW.

Powderfinger - Yeah, I feel sorry for the guy who's adding drums, b/c I don't really hear what it should do either. Drums are being added, btw, and I can't wait to hear 'em. Please post another acoustic tune. :D

Toki987 - Thanks, I think. I didn't use much math, but if that's a typo for "match," then I agree. Jamal doesn't get enough credit for his vocal work...maybe that's because his lyrics are always DISTRACTING from his musicianship. Too bad the guy can't record worth a shit!!

DeeExpus - Wow, thanks man. Drums are on the way. I listened to some of the snippets on your site, and they all sounded totally righteous to me. I was waiting to post in your thread until I can hear "Red." Welcome aboard!!

SLuiCe - I have the same vision...seriously, since you first posted that idea, I've been screwing around with it. But there's a momentum problem, and the instrumentation just makes it tough. I'm just not being able to get it across...but I took yet ONE more shot at it. Brought the tambourine down a ton right there, F-eccted the shit out of the vox, brought a 4th part in the middle, etc. If you can bear one more listen, I'd appreciate it...but no pressure or anything.

*LAST BUMP*

Wow,great song Chris,truly great!
Guitars sound fantastic,I guess you got the hang of that 183!:D

Everything was excellent, nothing like a song that tells a good story!
I say fix her and keep her,Dad would have liked that I think.:)

I enjoyed it very much,thanks,
Pete

I know I said it was the last bump...

but I found a picture of Old Yeller, in all her glory.

And thanks, Pete. I'll PM you.

I think that was when we moved my sis into her dorm...in 1984!! That's "pre-500,000" condition.

Nice song!
Sounds great !
Mixed well, vocals placed well, I would like to hear something more in production but I don't really know what.
This tune is right on the edge of needing drums and fiddle, but it works just as it is.

Nice writing Jamal................:D

Great job!
Joel

That's about as close as you can get, I think, without making changes to the instrumentation. You see, when I first heard it, I thought the guitars cut back when the split vox came in. Now if there was a drop in the dynamics of the instruments (more effective with drums of course) than the idea would really shine I think. I can tell from this that you are hearing it, and I like it a LOT more than the original, and works very well.
By the way, the lyrics on this are terrific...Rhyme-y without being forceful with the rhymes. Nice job there.
Do you see what I mean about the dynamics there though? It would give it a sort of introspective break, moving from memory to story telling. The problem right now (if you want to call it a problem) is that with the guitars maintaining their levels, the individual vocal parts aren't as clear as they could be. Just some thoughts, you've done a great job as it is!

OK, on another listen, I hear that it's the lead guitar in that section that's burying the vocals. You might either fade it in as you fade in the vocals, or perhaps completely cut it until the break at 4:00. OR...add a shitload of verb to it and keep it way out back until 4:00. Lot of stuff you could try.

Alright you must have a headache by now. :D

Whatever you do, this is a great song Chris. Take it easy.

hehe, i love the autotune song...

hmm, that sounds really fun...

how exactly does the antares thing work?

i was under the impression you could just tune to intervals or something?

it just lets you tune to individual notes?

how exactly does it work?

Hehehehe...I carefully waited until this was off the front page before I started another thread on the same song, but I appreciate you listening to the autotune thing.

I'm using the computer program, not the box. And all I've really figured out is how to ABUSE the auto-tune. Yeah, you can manually adjust individual notes (not "auto"), or, you can just tell it what Key an individual track is supposed to be in, and it'll compare each note to a note in that key, and adjust it up or down to whatever note it's closest to. For the autotune song, I set the parameters to grab notes and shift them IMMEDIATELY, and I intentionally sang the parts as "loose" (i.e., flat) as I could. then I just ran each vocal through it on "auto." Seriously, it took me longer to type this than it did to record that song.

Thanks for checking it out. Now, please delete your post so that this'll go back to the abyss of the second page.

:D

just felt like takin' old yeller out for another spin tonight.......................ya know?

joro **sips**his fermented barley and hops......

Definitly my favorite C.H. tune.
Think I'll give it a couple of spins myself.

Just right on a tired Friday night.
