Last Tune...

And I'm saying that because I've heard much better from you production-wise. However, nobody else seems to be commenting on this, so maybe I have a corrupt file? The EQ in Winamp shows almost every band just about pinned! I'm hoping it's just a bad file, because this tune is fantastic.

Hey Sluice... Is there any chance you've got the "preamp" feature on Winamp engaged and pumped or something? I just downloaded from my site, and it didn't sound any shittier than normal...hehehehe...anybody else?

I don't have Winamp, but it doesn't sound bad or mono.. I'm playing it through Music Match.. I hear a lot of stereo around 3:50ish with the vocal.. something is definitely wrong SLuice..

this song is growing on me like a fungus. :)

good stuff..

I thought 'old yeller' was a dog or something?!

People...this is killing me. Tom says it sounds mono, and this is about the most UN-Mono thing I've ever heard?????

Anybody????

[EDIT] Thanks, Sam...I really appreciate it.

I listened through MusicMatch and through my monitors.....

It is definitely more than fine....it is SAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET :D

There is stereo seperation for sure....

I don't know about the recording, but I think this is my best song. I'd be particularly interested to know if the vocals are sibilant or unintelligible.

The recording on hi-fi sounds fine, vox sounds great and I like the song. Good job.

Stine <--- can't add anything useful since I know nothing about music really <shrug>

Don't sweat it...i probably got a bad download. It didn't sound really mono, just squished to the center and distorted and maxed out. Gotta be a bad stream. I'll try downloading it again. Should be better!

YOU WERE STREAMING IT?????? THIS FROM THE MAN FAMOUS FOR 12.5MB FILES??? How DARE you. I set it to "suck" in the event that you should try to stream it.

Kind of a higher bitrate for me too.

Lemme' know??? Thanks.

[Edit] BTW - Sluice, Your critique did more to help this thread than my song ever did!!!! Seriously, thanks for trying. I know you have monitors and stuff, so I'm kinda' riveted here.

Sorry man...I have pretty fast cable so I stream a lot. Usually not a problem...

nice chris

I kinda like that theres no drums... dare I say it might clutter things up? Why conform, when you can folk out! I like the mix as well, your tunes sound good on my computer, I cant do that with my tunes yet...

Ahhhh...much better indeed! :)

You have no idea what a difference this is LOL!

Fabulous song Chris. AND GREAT sounding recording. I'm gonna have this with me on my next trip to Montana...it's perfect for those drives. Really beautiful man. Great singing. Love the low guitars notes in the 2:30 area break. Not sure about the panning of the vocals around 3:40...I know why you did it, but it doesn't need to be that hard a split IMO. OR... if you are going to split them like that, I'd push them back a little with some verb...or just a level cut. The pan tossed them right out naked into the spot light. And they sound awesome, but I'd experiment a little more because they seem to change to abruptly from the main vocal parts... OOOOO wait. What if you fade them in from a reveberated area in the back, and slowly brought them forward. Might be worth a try. I think the instrumentation allows for it.
Anyway, beautiful stuff man. Good job!

Tom...thanks for jumping through the hoops. The quoted material sounds like a TON of fun...I can hear it in my head. Fabulous idea. I'm trying that as soon as I get home.

Sigma9 - Good to see you, man. I'm guessing you're about to (or have) posted something. There's yet ANOTHER reason for me to get home for a listen. Thanks for the post.

kcbluegal - We're in the same boat. I'm about 1 for 5 on the hit vs. miss scale. Thanks for listening and commenting.

Joro - Thanks for stopping my heart palpitations. I'm stoked that you like it.

B.SABBATH - your post instantly calmed me down. Thanks for taking the time to help out.

Phyl - I'm gonna' try to smooth out the intro; thanks for listening.

JR#97 - I'm just not rocking these days. I'm gonna' have to replace the Tele' on my avatar with an acoustic and a Daisy on a pillow or something. Maybe it's the meds...I dunno. Thanks for listening, man.

Hey Chris,
Im at work now, I'll give this a listen later on tonight.....

I don't do the D/L thingie that often on this 56k...(three kids nuff said) but man this is so great! I haven't read any of the other replies, and i don't think I have to. Super duper job Chriss, and thanks I'm keeping this:D .

Nice song Chris.............

.................you really are a talented writer and you have a very good voice. I don't think it needs drum either, I like it kinda sparse like it is. The tombourines sound ok.....not perfect but who plays perfect tambourine? I agree that it has a The Band sort of feel and that's a good thing.
BTW......glad to hear your tumor was benign....that's a pretty scarey thing to go through.

NO DRUMS?

LOL! hehehe! just found out this had NO DRUMS! I was so into the story of the song so much I never noticed. Damn! ok i'm gone:)

ps..it don't need no stinkin drums!

VBR and Beyond

I PUT UP A VERSION USING THAT DAMNED "VBR" THING SO ERICHENRYUS WOULD GET OFF MY BACK!!! :D

(and I messed with it some...SLuiCe!!!!!! LISTEN TO THE END AND TELL ME IF THAT'S WHAT YOU HAD IN MIND??...I like it better).

David - That's a huge compliment, and I sincerely appreciate it...really. Now download the newest version...you weren't gonna' be using that bandwidth for the next hour anyway, right? (still working on the avatar...I got "distracted" last week).

Lt. Bob - Thanks for the health check. I just turned 33, and I think that episode took about 20 years off of my life in less than a week. Kinda' makes all the big stuff seem little. (*lights another cigarette*).

macle - You drum nazi. If you can't say something nice, then just 1 star me and leave. :D :D (very cool of you to listen).

Guernica...you home yet?

You people have no idea how much I appreciate the time and the tips and the patience over the past 6 months. I'm feeling sappy.

Well, I was gonna be an autotune nazi  , but who wants to bring up that?! seriously, I'm just curious, is there autotune on this, not that there's anything wrong with that, but you can tell me, cuz I think I'm hearing it.

Seriously, though. Real good song, singing, guitars sound great, I especially like the harmony on the word 'fun'. I think you could bring up the vocal. I think, in country music, they've got the vocal real up front, don't they?
