hello , this is my first post here ,and i need some advice. I have a rock band and want to make some demos and kkep tracks of our songs.

first i Have an asus laptop custom build with centrino 3.0, 1g memory and a 60g 16mb cache hard drive, i believe its a good machine for recording,

in the mixer i have a Warfthdale 12 Channel mixer , but he thing here is that im connecting the mixer to the pc sound card (realtek )with a stereo 1\8 to rca cable, wich a guy toldme that this ie the bas of my problem.

Well my problem is that when im recording (live) after some minutes NUENDO stop recording automatically with an error (error engine or something like that).

This guy told me that my sound card was not capable of process tha ammount of sound, and that i need something better.

If this is my problem i need someadvice on what to buy (sound card orinterface)

thanks for the help!!!

I don't know about your soundcard sorry.
If it's not a specific audio recording card it may well clap out BUT the sound quality wouldn't be great to start with. You would only be processing stereo in I assume so it's not a lot of information to deal with if it's going in at a reasonable level.
What are the results like for what you do get into it?
I've recorded into a soundblaster from a simple mixer - still just stereo in & had OK results. Nothing good & stuff I'd love to rerecord but hey.
I don't think the stereo in is the problem. It's either the card OR the program & how it ooperates with your comp & inputs.
With a laptop you need a good AD/DA converter (usually internal or external soundcard) & interface (which can be bypassed with a good external card as these are essentially an interface & card combined). I have a couple of friends using laptops & they've become frustrated with the amount of external stuff they really need to get a good recording.
To me, and I'm an ignorant sod on this level, laptops are a false economy esp if you are recording multi tracks into stereo.

Let's see.

You have a $2000 recording software package and a 59 cent sound card.

Could you have pirated/bootlegged/illegally downloaded a cracked copy of Nuendo?

To give you the benefit of the doubt, you need a USB, externally powered Firewire or PCMCIA card to record to a laptop. Here's a link the page of PCMCIA cards. Do your own search for the other two types.

what are you, Sherlock Holmes? jeeez

laptop wise you sound as if you've got the specs down, i run a much lower spec latop and it's fine for recording with. my only suggestion is that perhpas Nuendo doesn't like running and recording on the same HD. try using an external HD. Pro Tools would give me a similar problem if i try to record on the same volume that PT is installed on.

but i would strongly suggest getting an external interface. you'll be able to record more tracks simultaneously, as well as get a much better sound quality from it.

good luck!

You know whats sad? I want to help, i really do, but I smell fish.

So, matey, if'n you aint piratin and ye can afford things like Nuendo, a Firepod would serve ye needs nicely. YARRRGH!!!!!! :D

Who really cares if he used Pirated software or not...It"s not like it is a Major Crime , I believe more Jaywalkers get busted than Poeple who download a Free Program now and then with the Penalty being worse for Jaywalking...

Pluss who died and Made you Judge ,Jury and executioner???

I say download and use whatever the hell you want...If you get caught it is your own Fault and if you don"t then it wasn"t important enough for "Them" to do anything about it....What they don"t know won"t hurt them...

Take your government reduced meds and chill a sec.

If you noticed, i did offer advice after putting my 2 cents in.

What is it you do for a living, Minion?

I wasn"t talking about you!!

I am a parole officer if you have to know and used to be in the RCMP untill 4 years ago (Desk Job) and before I was in the RCMP I was an adult film producer In Toronto.....

I guess Software piracy doesn"t seem to Phaze me especially after a day of Dealing with Real thieves , Murderers and Rapists in my Role as a Parole Officer....

Cheers

YEah, my objection to it isn't a legal one.

Its more of a fuck-everyone-else-but-me attitude that is pretty much all that is wrong with America today.....

I asked about the job thinking it might give leeway for a clever anecdote, but I have nothing funny to say about mounties except i wish i was allowed to carry a stun gun :(

I kind of have a similar question.. I just want to know why there is a need for a midi interface when connecting from an external midi controller (keyboard) to a laptop. Wouldn't that just slow things down? I currently have a direct Midi-USB connection between my keyboard and laptop, and the lag time is Ok.. i guess, but I just figured that the more wires and circuits a signal has to pass through the more it will take for that signal to reach its destination.
