Thats a really cool mix

The only thing that doesn't sound up to the rest of the inst. is the drums. They sound "bit" crapped--like they are coming apart due to processing. I would go for a more punchy tight sound on the drum instead of that siblence sound.

I agree that the drums need to come forward. Good tune tightly played. Techniclly, I wouldn't classify this as bubblegum. It doesn't sound anything like The Archies doing "Sugar Sugar".:D

the tune itself is great!

I dont like the recording though. It sounds very mushy IMOP. I dont like the drums and the guitar rhythm sounds a bit too direct..

The leads are very cool! This is overall a good tune, I just dont like the sound... Those 'effecty' vocal parts jump out a bit, and the overall vox sound is a bit low, but I have worse problems with my vocals..

good tune!

Thanx to both of ya's for your thoughts.I think I'll go back and mix again after some time away.I've fiddled w/this song almost exclusively for about a month, and I'm burnt on it.
Reggs,do the drums sound to Reverby.Or does it sound like a matter of eq?
Track Rat,I just like to kid about my music.Keeps me from taking things to serious!

Thanx 'Sabbath!I think you're right about it being "mushy".Lately,I'm affraid I use to much reverb and delay to mask things that bother me.Frankly,I get tired of working on the same tune for long periods,so towards the end,I rush things.Vocals are by far the biggest casualty of that.I'm not terribly good at performing or recording them.
Alas, thats one of the great things about this forum.Throw the fucker out there and get new perspectives.I will definately come back to this one in a month or two w/fresh ears. But now it's time to start another one,and hope I get it right the first time.
Thanx for the listen!

beezel,...

That's fantastic,... awesome,... smashing! I could go on & on...

There's no reason a song like this couldn't be on the radio.

I'm really impressed. It was way beyond my expectations.

No criticizm, period.

I think the song and the playing is better than the recording.

Hey,

I'll jump on the "mushy bandwagon" but, I mostly wanted to say cool song and performance. I really dig the vocals. Very full and colored in a panoramic way that is quite pleasing. What's your method for such bounty of sound? Overdubs, different effects on different dubs and such?

Nice tune,
Perhaps you could repost when your ears are rested and you tackle the mix again.

Theron.

I agree that the recording is rough, but the song overall is cool. The vocals seem out of tune most of the time, esp. in the verses. Sabbath makes a good point that the guitars sound too direct. The playing is very good, but it needs to 'breathe' to really do justice to the playing.

Wow,how'd this thread get resurected.I've been real busy lately,so I haven't been in the clinic.
Thanx to Black Sabbaths earlier reply(the guy is brutaly frank),I went back and really went over some things.
The vocals are quadrupal(or more)tracked, with a different effect on each.Utter overkill, but one way to make them cut through the dense guitars. They're not 4 tracks doing the same thing, however.I believe 2 trks were the lead vocals, then 2 harmony vocals.
For the new mix,I mixed all 4 completely dry,to a stereo track. Then I mixed all 4 w/effects and blended them in,with the dry vox being more prominent.
I also redid each drum with a differnt sound.I use PCDRUMMER,which I like, but the stock sounds(the ones you all heard)are not quite what I want.I sampled some sounds from my Alesis HR16 that I like much better!
Finally,I redid the rythm guitars entirely, which sound more natural, and less direct, and mixed everthing with less reverb.I think it will be a much better mix.I'll upload the new mix this week,if anyone is interested in comparing.
To me,this is the real value of this forum.I'm a one man band, who doesn't get feedback about the pros and cons of a mix any other way.
Thanx for listening,I will make a point of returning the favor!
